Agreed. The Big Ten and SEC make significantly more than the Big 12 and other conferences. Don't know why Arkansas would leave for less, or even comparable, money.
outside of a year or so in basketball and football they have not been the juggenaut they were while playing out west with oklahoma and texas they used to play in big bowls every year now they set home alot ,it would help them i think but i say they stay in sec.unless we can get texas oklahoma ,miami fla, north carolina and duke
I get the Big 10 going after Rutgers, at least in theory. Same for Missouri. Notre Dame is a no-brainer. Nebraska even makes sense.
I don't get Pitt. You already have a team in that market. Makes no sense to me.
I realize football is driving this, but if they are going to do it, Kansas makes more sense to me for basketball purposes alone.
I'm surprised Louisville isn't in the Big 10 plans. Huge fan base with very solid basketball, football and baseball programs. New stadiums and would be instant rivals with the likes of Indiana,Purdue & Ohio State.
If they take Pitt you'll get the whole state of Pennsylvania as your market. Much like the thought of if the SEC picked up Ga Tech, the whole state of georgia would be an SEC market even though GT is a small market fan base in Atlanta.
Plus Pitt is a decent team that would be more suited to compete in the Big 10 as opposed to Rutgers.

problem is though they already have the Pittsburgh market, as they do the philadelphia market. So pretty much they already have the whole state of PA.

I would expect NEB, Mizzou, ND, Rutgers and Pitt to accept.
Then the SEC will nab Tex, A&M, then 2 of VT, FSU, Miami, Clemson, GT or USF.
Exactly the same deal as UGA and the Atlanta market. But, bringing in GT would hem up the whole state. Same with Pitt. While they only bring in a small market, they will completely own Pa. Probably just as much of a status thing as it is for revenue, etc.

As for the sec, I haven't heard expansion talk on our end at all....other then teams fans want to see added. I'm not sure we are in a position where we would "have to" yet...but if we did, I would expect a southern big east team like usf before an acc team (save maybe ga tech, but I can still see them going either way)

But they already have Pittsburgh and Philadelphia as big 10 network major markets (the ones where the network makes 70 cents per household rather than just 10) if that's the case, then it sounds very much like they already have Pittsburgh and the whole state of Penn wrapped up.
It just sounds more like the "level of play argument" so I don't think Pitt is major priority to them, and they don't seem to be in the list of 4 teams said to be offered. Now perhaps though they could be the 16th team if all 4 accept, but it just isn't looking right now like the big 10 is super gung ho for them.
I do understand what you are trying to say though

Pitt and Penn State had a big rivalry up until they went to the Big East and Big 10. I think the Big 10 would want to renew that.
This whole thing is being driven by the Big 10 network. They already have the PA market. There is no need for Pitt.
For that matter I see no reason whatsoever for the SEC to go after GA Tech if (when) the SEC expands. The only markets that make sense to me are Texas, maybe Miami, or a Virginia school (Va Tech).
