Big10 Rumor: adding 4 including Clemson and FSU

The North Carolina state General Assembly will not allow the four schools to be split up. UNC, NC State, Duke, and Wake are married for life.

At least, that's how it was all the years I was in the Army: repeated tours at Fort Bragg, and a final 3-year hitch in Wilmington. All together, almost half my career was in the Tar Heel state. I got to know their local and state politics pretty well.

So it's been 15 years since I hung up my spurs. Quite possible things might've changed. Then again, in politics, things tend to change at a glacial pace, if at all.

I'd bet there's still no separating those four schools. Not without a huge legal/policy/political fight.

Go Vols!

That’s potentially true for Carolina and State because they are state universities , but Duke and Wake are private institutions.

Bet you’re happy you weren’t at Bragg, I mean Liberty last week. That place is 5 degrees hotter than every other spot in the Southeast. Freaking Sandhills.

Wake and Duke are private schools. I'm not sure the NC Assembly wins that legal battle.

I'm not opposed to the schools, they're great, but this is business. They bring basketball, I guess (but much less with Dean and K gone,) and God knows they bring academics but expansion should be about a TV draw AND not having the conference spread out over all the time zones (again, TV.) Keeping the SEC in the Eastern and Central Time Zones makes it easier on the media, fans, etc.

The B1G has built a situation where you will have Maryland v USC starting at 11pm on the east coast. That's dumb.

Hell, let's trade Missouri for a half eaten bag of store brand Doritos.

There's one invite I'm sure the SEC offices would love to have back
Missouri is another good school with nothing much to bring to the SEC, but here we are. They could bark a little in the Big 12 but the major SEC schools have just run them off the porch.

They're kinda harmless now like Vandy but a drain on the revenue with little return.

They might not win that battle. But, unless they've changed a lot over the past 15 years, they'd damn sure try.

And the battle would be as much political as legal. It would take years, maybe decades, to play out.

Doesn't matter that much, after all, that Wake and Duke are private schools. Not if the General Assembly is bound to keep the 4 schools together.

RDU, going to take me some time to get used to the renamed Fort Liberty. Totally with you on the Sandhills. Amazing how effective they are at trapping and re-radiating heat.

Go Vols!

Yeah it’s weird. I wasn’t even in the military, but I’ve been nearby and it’s strange to see it called that. My Dad was there in the 70’s . He has some stories that’s for sure.

Their return on the revenue are the St. Louis and Kansas City TV markets. You take that away and the TV contracts shrink. Our TV income increased with them in the league.

I get that but unless Missouri is playing I'm betting those markets are watching the B1G on Fox or maybe the B12.

It's just not an SEC fit, IMO.

Duke and Wake are private and general assembly has no control over them.

UNC and State are public and can are controlled by state dollars.

FSU had a pretty decent season last year and have a top 10 recruiting class right now. They’re gaining on it. However, the thought of two BIG 10 teams in the south…just ghastly.
Maybe we could trade OK and TX for Clemson and FSU.

Need to push Vandy out... Add UNC... They make sense area wise plus adds to basketball as well to the conference..Vandy is embarrassing

I will keep Miss St and reject Miami.

Yeah, honestly I kind of like Miss St. They're never going to win big so they are easy to cheer on as a "secondary" or third team. I mean of course I root against them when they are playing the Vols, but matchups have been rare.

Still kind of bummed about Mike Leach passing TBH. Wish he had been given a few more years in Starkville before cruising on down to the Keys for retirement. CFB is gonna miss him bigly this year

Maybe we can negotiate a trade with the ACC. Mizzou, Vandy, and Miss St for Clemson, FSU, and Miami.

I already responded on the other posters comment as I am a bit fond of Miss St.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind trading USCleast. In 30 years in the SEC, they have added exactly 0. Trade them for Clemson so the ACC can keep a toehold in the state for whether reason.

Arky hasn't set the world on fire but they have at least been competitive at times and the cultural fit seems OK enough.

They bring academic prestige/credibility. They're also a founding member of the conference. Only way Vandy is leaving the SEC is by their own volition.
Plus, Why would we want to kick out Vandy? It’s pretty much an automatic W. We haven’t won the SEC since 98, the division since 07 and some people want to get rid of Vandy? Why? It’s only getting more difficult.
