Do you believe we have the talent right now to compete the SEC elites? Looking at 247s 23 class ranking it's clear we are adding talent but the elites just keep reloading and adding to their all ready talent advantage. That we have work to do to match their talent should be a given. No one in this thread has criticized CJH's recruiting effort. Few if any have forgotten the state of the program when he took over. For the program to be at this point after losing 35 in the transfer port along with the NCAA actions is quite the feat.

Right now, no. We need another 10 win regular season to put this thing on the fast track, IMO. If that happens this year, it would exceed my expectations.

"No one is criticizing CJH's recruiting effort"? Where were you for the Seaton commitment. You would have thought we lost by 40 to Florida the way people were trashing the coaches.

I think we do get to 10 wins, but we'll need a bowl victory to get us there. Unless Nico is the second coming of Cam Newton, I don't see us winning more than 9 regular season games.

Shouldn't be any fall off between 1s and 2s. It's all about having quality depth. Where getting there.

Blue chips, green chips, polka dot chips, or potato chips; don't mean nothing if you don't have the coaches to mesh them into a cohesive unit. Just ask the Boise States, Miami Dolphins No Name Defense guys of old, the Lake Placid USA Hockey Team, or Appalachian State. Or ask Vols fans who watched Lyle Allen squander some upper class talent two years running.

Call me crazy but I believe our scheme will be capable of making up the small difference. Out of the top 20 teams today who plays to their scheme better? Is our scheme unique at that level?

Ran the number one offense in the country in his second season with this 43% blue chip ratio 🤷

Thats a crazy statement. ZERO drop off if Nico gets hurt?? Who is the quality back up at center if Cooper Mays goes down? Who is the quality backup left tackle if Lance Heard gets hurt? Who's STARTING at free safety, let alone being the backup?

Look, I agree we have come a long way but let's not pretend like we aren't a few key injuries away from 7-5.

Meant in this thread. No one in this thread is trashing or bashing our recruiting effort. No one in this thread mentioned Seaton, if the Seaton comments bother then maybe go post in that thread. Just a thought

This is a very interesting read and kind of a sober reminder of where Tennessee currently sits in the pecking order of team blue chip talent

In a nutshell, no team since 2011 has won a natty that didn't have a team blue chip ratio above 50% and only 3 of those 13 teams won it with a ratio below 60%...

2023: Michigan (54%)
2016: Clemson (53%)
2013: FSU (53%)

And what do all 3 of those teams have in common? Yep, none of them are in the SEC.

Where does Tennessee sit with its current roster? They are at 46% and out of the top 16.

I say all this just to illustrate that coach Huepel and his staff still have a lot of work to do to get our team talent level to a point where we can seriously compete for championships. If they can swing a top 5 class this year, that would be an excellent start! But I'd say we are still a couple of top 5 recruiting classes away from busting through to that 50-60% barrier.

A couple of notes, 1.) this does not take into account the transfer portal because according to the study, it has yet to make a significant impact in terms of the teams who won. And 2.) It remains to be seen if the expanded 12 team playoffs has any impact on this.
Blue chips being 4 and 5 star players.

I just love how sooo many on this board ridicule those of us that have "stars in our eyes" - you know the whole "as long as they play for TN, take hard coaching, and get coached up" - "stars don't matter" - crowd.

Recruiting "Blue Chip" players does matter significantly - it's how championships are won!

Maybe some of you guys understand but I'd say the majority of people here don't get how bad things were. People here question ever player we've had committed if they aren't a 4 star or better across all platforms. In case those people are here, I'm stating these facts so that they can become informed on the situation since most are not
