IIRC Congress long ago passed some border security legislation that wasn't fully implemented. Perhaps there is authority under this legislation.

Alternatively, it may be the same thing as agencies (in this case Immigration and Naturalization) simply "enforcing" it's authority. We saw this with the EPA under the last admin as they wrote sweeping standards and the FCC (I believe) with the declaration of the Internet as akin to public utility.

I'm not advocating this be done this way - just trying to answer why it might be doable without Congress. Obama paved the way.

I do think there should be a process that is followed for legal immigration and I also think it should be as fair as possible to people from all countries (accounting for the constant and inevitable changes that occur in the world). I also believe there should be border security to help reduce the number of illegal immigrants.

The only long term answer is for Mexico to become a place where their citizens want to stay. Any policy we adopt that has a negative impact on the standard of living in Mexico, will only increase the number and desire of people wanting to come here illegally.

Newsflash, the number of Mexicans crossing the border has decreased significantly. It the central americans from further south that have been flooding across the last several years.

Great job Obama. His policies have led to a significant decrease in illegal immigration of Mexican citizens. Come on everybody - give him credit.

Sounds like Central America needs some help now.

Now all we have to do to get the Guatemalans, Hondurans and Nicaraguans from coming here is to ship more of our jobs their way.

I agree, he should be spending his time on the transgendered problems within the military and getting our combat units fully integrated. Not to mention bathrooms, we still have a long way to go in this country in assuring everyone has a bathroom they feel comfortable using.

I just gotta know ... how deep into the earth is this wall planned to go? Is this wall going to be a Game of Thrones type of wall?? "Its gonna be yuuuggeee!" "Bigger than that Chinese wall!"


...either way, if they can build an elaborate tunnel for El Chappo, you can be sure they will find a way under this one.

Cool well we have these things called ground sensors and building a tunnel is a lot more expensive vs walking over the border unopposed

I've given up on the conservative movement and I'm far more of a pragmatic libertarian than anything.

I just don't think a wall is going to do what Trump and his fans think it will. It certainly will not keep out drugs and rapists. It will probably be most effective against those searching for a better life in America for themselves and their children. The drug gangs and other criminals will always find a way in.
