I've given up on the conservative movement and I'm far more of a pragmatic libertarian than anything.
I just don't think a wall is going to do what Trump and his fans think it will. It certainly will not keep out drugs and rapists. It will probably be most effective against those searching for a better life in America for themselves and their children. The drug gangs and other criminals will always find a way in.
I actually think that we should build fences with unmanned electronic surviellance posts and Border Patrol stations at reasonable distances.

With gear that blends:
1.acoustic
2.seismic
3.passive infrared (IR)
4.profiling subroutines
5.electric field
6.magnetic field
7.radar
8.sonar
9.visible
10.Infrared imaging
These modalities greatly enhance the agents' ability to correctly identify humans vs. animals and drug mules vs illegal aliens crossing for other reasons.
..."Abstract
There is considerable interest in detecting people crossing the border with fewer false alarms and high confidence. This capability requires understanding the phenomenology of various sensor modalities and developing algorithms based on the phenomenology. In an effort to develop this capability, U.S. Army Research Laboratory scientists went to the southwest border to collect data using acoustic, seismic, passive infrared (IR), profiling, electric field, magnetic field, radar, sonar, visible, and IR imaging sensors. In this report, we discuss the data collection effort and resultant data, phenomenology of various sensor modalities, and robust detection algorithms. In the future, the acoustic sensor data will be processed to determine the characteristic features of human voice (formants, etc.), the seismic data will be processed using the ground transfer function to determine the cadence of the person walking (as opposed to an animal), and the radar and ultrasonic data will be processed to determine the Doppler frequency resulting from various limb movements."...
Right now, 24/7, the Border Patrol can 'see' 15 miles into the desert. They can tell the difference between human an animal. They see the heat of drug mules straining under their burden. They can count the number of adults and children. They can sometimes tell if the desert crossing has taken such a toll that first aid is needed.
Personally, I don't like a brick and mortar wall. America should, and can, behave in a more humane way to those who cross illegally.
Meet them. If they're drug runners or already criminals..lock em up and try, convict, sentence and incarcerate or deport.
If they're just illegals. Feed, clothe, treat emergencys, and deport.
Attach the money current illegals are trying to send home. They'll leave. There will come a time that so few get across the phenomenon will disappear.
Can't wait until Mexico opens the invoice! Hope they video it.
I wonder if Mexicans will be building it? Mexicans are the best in the masonry trade.
When mexicans first started moving into the trade, too many only cared about how many brick they could lay in a day. Speed, speed, speed. So mortar joints are either fat or thin always trying to get back on course. Verticals never lined up. Either that or they just don't try til they're near the top. They'd even leave out masonry ties to hold the brick to the wall. If mortar mix made with too much sand and it crumbles. Let's not talk about straight, true, plumb, and level.
Yeah..some, were good masons and cared about their work. Most, it's that "how many brick per day".
That's gotten better in the last 25 years, but if you hire a mason, do your due diligence and know who you're getting.
You guys are scary adolecents....

Let them build it, but they should also engrave the names of all its ardent supporters on the bricks, starting with Trump's. This way, a hundred years from now, it can stand as a monument to the stupidity of these times and bear all the names responsible for the massive waste.
Production wise they are in nearly all construction trades...they sjmply work incredibly hard.
Quality wise, they really arent. I supervise between 50 and 80 amigos 6 days a week, 51 weeks a year. I love em. They are good people, and great workers. The quality of work in latin america isnt as high as top notch work here. An example in masonry would be that if you were going to build a lowes or grocery store... and you have 200 foot long straight walls with nothidng fancy and need it done yesterday....amigos will kill it..and the projext will be done early and with decent quality...and cheaper than a white man would think about doing it.
If you want a free standing fireplace in your backyard, with a double arch inset and a wood burning firebox...number 1...the lead mason on the lowes job is probably the only brick mason there that can even build a standard firebox...number 2..he probably has never built a free standing arch form, or an arch inset, and likely cant even do the math required to get the radius correct to have the proper consistent arch in the temporary wood form he would have to first make in order to ever build the arch in the first place.
Long story short, amigos are incredible but the true craftsmen, in all phases of construction that are capable of top notch quality where you can name your price for the finished product...those guys are still old school american craftsmen. There arent many of us left though, and honestly...i think we may be a generation away from extinction. I am 40 this year...and i dont know a single apprentice, not 1...that is 20 or 25 and learning masonry, Carpentry, etc under a real master of the craft. All of america may be living in crap quality mcmansions when they get rich in 10 or 15 more years. Its sad honestly.
