Bowl Game Possibility

Hearing everything CBJ is saying the last couple of days (i.e. off season conditioning, recruiting, early enrollees, etc.), he is way beyond thinking of a bowl and I feel would probably decline one if offered...JMO

I highly highly doubt it

This is more legit than y'all think. There is already a thread on this and they were discussing it on the Erik Ainge show the other day. If there aren't enough teams to fill the bowls that are allotted for SEC teams, the bowl can make the decision to either take a 6-6 team from another conference or a 5-7 team from the SEC. This was allowed as of August 2012.

As of right now we would be a likely 5-7 team to go. Especially since it's all about the money and Tennessee can sell out a stadium.

Tennessee doesnt sell out their home stadium

Also GT got to the ACC Championship in the same way UCLA got to the P12 Championship in 2011. North Carolina and Miami tied with GT for the division at 5-3; NC was on probation so they were already out, and Miami would have won the tiebreaker but they self-imposed a postseason ban, therefore GT got the ACC Championship bid.

When the bowl games get started we'll all be wondering more about NSD and b-ball. I agree that hoping otherwise is to set up further disappointments.

Has anyone mentioned the off season surgeries already performed on some players? I don't think we could even field a team #'s wise.

No team with a losing record deserves a bowl weather it's allowed or not!

This is not about deserving!! This is about that if there are not enough teams 6-6 or better then a 5-7 team would get in!!

What do you think should happen they cancel a bowl because there are not enough DESERVING teams?

Not to mention that Tennessee will be a better team than a lot of Bowl teams.

Personally I love the Bowls I'm glad there are 35 bowls. It makes College Football the best sport in the world.

If you don't think teams deserve to be in DON'T watch the game.

One other thing, before we had this ridiculous Overtime crap, Tennessee would have been 5-6-1. Just what is wrong with ties during the regular season anyway?

Do all these have "eligible" wins? Multiple FCS wins don't count.

Actually, under the new selection criteria teams with one or no FCS wins go before teams with 2 FCS wins. Both go before 5-7 teams.

Here is the simple way to put it:

There are currently 77 teams with records of 6-6 or better, and only 70 bowl spots available. Assuming that no teams get to 6-6 this weekend, Tennessee will only get a bowl invite if at least 8 eligible teams voluntarily decline invitations. That would be more teams declining in one season than have voluntarily declined invites, total, since 1970.

SIAP, but according to my friends on the football team, CBJ has confidence in us being picked as a 5-7 team to play in a bowl game. He has told them to not count out the idea of them receiving bid. I know there are slim chances but I just found it interesting that Butch has confidence that they could still play ina bowl game.
How about no Scott

Tennessee is well aware they are not going bowling.

Butch would have delayed Tiny making his NFL move if there was a remote chance of playing in a bowl game. They are not going bowling.

Offseason surgeries are taking place.

Butch has held his exit interviews with seniors.

Tiny is leaving campus today and will not be back up there..

Its time for this thread to die

According to ESPN, yes they all do.

Also if SMU, Rutgers, and South Alabama win today, they become bowl eligible.

The only teams I could tell that are 6-6 or better that aren't going bowling for sure are Penn St. (probation) and Old Dominion (in transition phase to FBS and not eligible).

So that's why I find the notion that Jones would even say this ridiculous.

Plus it gets you through December. Who doesn't love the bowl games in mid dec.

Every fan is biased towards their team and that's fine. The Vols didn't have a good year and sit at 5-7. That should not be rewarded with a bowl game. I don't even think 6-6 teams should go but that's just my opinion.

Dude, go to a Vandy message board and discuss your teams pathetic schedule strength and their upcoming invite to the BBCA Compass Bowl or something. Leave the Vol talk and discussions to Vols fans.

Why would u want to talk football with people that have the same view points as yourself? It leads to a boring conversation. I don't go on Vandy message boards for that very reason. The Vols weren't a good team this year so why should they get rewarded with a bowl game?

Because you said so
(your last question Vandy boy):)

I think Butch gets 20 million bonus if he makes a bowl...he will have this team poised until Jan 10th....that's the last game of the bowl year.... when the best two 5-7 teams duke it out in Fargo.
