Bowling Green interested in Bajakian

People that our focused on his best staff in America comment are so full of **** its ridiculous. Never seen a simple statement by a coach, that is trying to rebuild a program and sell to recruits, taken so literal.
I assume you want him to tell the world he has concerns and is not sure how this will turn out. That would be brilliant for recruiting, wouldn't it. Brilliant for the whiny asses on here to pick apart at best. Same posters want him to tell the world his coaching staff sucks after an L.
Best coach in America blew the sec championship game with multiple 4 th quarter coaching errors. Coaches aren't perfect, especially when they have inferior talent.

Needs more Likes.

Why not just STFU and go about your business hiring coaches that best fit your system. He made himself a target with that statement. Go back and listen to that interview and you will find it is as literal statement as eye discipline.

"Best" is a very subjective thing. Butch Jones could very well see his staff as the best in the nation for the job he has been given and the system he will use to attack that job. As a matter of fact, I would venture the guess that he either feels that:

(a) He has the best staff in the nation.

or

(b) He tried his best to get the best.

Heck... It would make absolutely no sense whatsoever for him to take the job and then say to his wife that night: "You know. This UT thing is going to be an uphill climb. I think I'll just hire crappy coordinators to help me do it. What do you think?"

Really? You think that's really what he did?

Or maybe he took the biggest job offer he had gotten from a desperate AD who had struck out on all his other candidates. And maybe he knew he had to say something to legitimize himself to a huge fanbase who has spent a crazy amount of money over the years for meager results and expected a big hire to make up for it.

Maybe he thought it would strengthen his pitch to them at his opening press conference if he promised to hire the best staff in America (echoing what Chizik did at Auburn after their fans were underwhelmed by that hire) as well as promising a pro-style offense (to assuage fears of a gimmicky, run-to-the-sideline offense that often proves ineffective at higher levels, against faster defenses). And maybe after he got the usual UT-fan-post-press-conference-approval (it's kind of our thing, it seems, to discard all doubt after that first introduction, regardless of any other data) and got his contract signed and got his maximum deal, maybe he decided he would rather give his pals big raises than stick with what he said before.

Bobby Petrino would be cool. At least we can say he truly "gets it"

I do, dont I?

That is a vertical hire for Coach B. CBJ would not keep an assistant from moving up the ranks. That should be a positive for our program. And remember it is the best assistant program in America per CBJ.

I seem to recall Kiffin publicly saying he wanted teams to poach his staff or something like that. Would be a good move for Coach B, I just think it hurts our program a bit in the short term, and frankly, we need to win asap.

Cincy TE led the team last year in catches and plays for the chiefs. We tried not to throw to ours. Another wr went pro.
I assume you think Bajak forgot what he knows in one year, and an 18 yr old qb throwing to no TE, Carson Newman wr's while playing 6 top 10 teams is no excuse. Don't consider we averaged more yds per carry than in a couple/few decades.
Morans.
Is he perfect, no. Did he make mistakes? Yep. Can we play an I form with 2 te's with a walkon fb and no te? No. Does pro style beat bama? No. Do I expect more? Tons.
The want to fire people all the time is a product of ones own issues, imo, in wanting to see others fall. No doubt really. Misery loves company and there are some freaking miserable people on these boards.

Well said. :bow2:

Ineffective at higher levels? Huh? If you are talking about the NFL, then maybe I understand. But, last time I checked, UT was a college team. I can't say that I fell in love with the spread because it seems to be more finesse, but ask Auburn about that. Florida, Auburn, and even Texas A&M are highly successful programs that have run the spread- even won championships. WTH?

Target of yours? Who gives a flip. He's a target of dumbasses daily. Not saying you are one. Just figure it out.

Not all spreads are alike. All of the teams you cited ran more north-south and/or had more of a vertical attack than many versions of the spread run at lower levels. For instance, Sumlin got rid of alot of the option stuff he did in the backfield at Houston when he came to the SEC. When defenses are faster, some of the gimmicky stuff has to be modified.

The Metric's Simplicity

The brilliance of Chou's Efficiency Metric lies in its simplicity. To rate the offense and defense separately you just find the quotient of the yards gained or allowed by a team over the total points scored for or against that team and it will give you the efficiency rating. If you want the overall team score, you find both the offensive and defensive ratings and then subtract the offensive rating from the defensive rating, then multiply that number by the team's strength of schedule to get one all-encompassing score.
This works so well because you want your team to have a high number on defense and a low number on offense, therefore when you find the difference between the two it embraces all aspects of the game. If the defense forces a three-and-out, then the punt returner gets some good blocks and has a decent return to give the offense a short field and the offense capitalizes on that opportunity by putting up seven points then that will greatly help your rating because all three phases of the game did their jobs to put points on the board.

What this means is that over the past two years, teams coached by Butch Jones forced their opponents to go 19.92, on average, for every point they scored. When you stretch that out into actual ways to score in football, it would be the equivalent of saying teams had to gain nearly 60 yards (59.76) to score a field goal or almost 140 yards (139.44) for a touchdown and the resulting extra point.

Conversely, teams coached by Jones didn't even have to gain 40 yards (38.22) per field goal, and less than 90 yards (89.18) per touchdown. Then when you get the balance between the two and factor in strength of schedule, you have an overall Team Efficiency Rating of 3.30. Keep in mind that this number can be negative, which the large majority of the NCAA's coaches overall ratings are. For some perspective, Mark Richt, who has ranked very well (15th) over the last two seasons has had an overall efficiency of 0.80, so while 3.30 doesn't seem like a very high number, it's actually good enough to make Butch Jones the fourth most efficient head coach in college football over the last two years.

OVERALL EFFICIENCY
1. Nick Saban 10.01
2. Les Miles 9.33
3. Brian Kelly 3.83
4. Butch Jones 3.30
5. Bill Snyder 3.12
6. David Shaw 3.04
7. Chip Kelly 2.68
8. Bret Bielema 2.35
9. Will Muschamp 2.23
10. Chris Petersen 2.20

DEFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
1. Nick Saban 22.37
2. Brian Kelly 22.22
3. Les Miles 20.76
4. Butch Jones 19.92
5. Chris Petersen 18.84
6. Steve Addazio 18.44
7. Will Muschamp 18.24
8. David Shaw 17.87
9. Dan Mullen 17.64
10. Brady Hoke 17.53

Metric Shows Jones Among Coaching Elite - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

Everyone is hating on this staff...all knowing they have no talented depth/and or lack experience at multiple positions. But I thought this was very interesting when I saw it at the beginning of the season. I keep going back to it because it proves that teams under this staff have gotten better at a high efficiency. Add this to Butch Jones HC'ing record is why I remain positive and believe we have a "REAL FOOTBALL COACH" here. Along with his obvious ability to recruit I still believe the sky is the limit for us here.

And btw...I know this staff made some bad calls and decisions at times. All staffs do it....pro's and college. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It is why the game is played....and you learn from those mistakes.

The only reason you saw Pig Howard get the ball on end arounds is because he was our only legitimate threat on the outside running the ball. We were trying to put the ball in a playmaker's hands, and he plays WR and not RB. That is the only thing that I can think of that you are reffering to. Our playmaking ability was limited, and it is funny that we ran that play with Pig and CP under Chaney's pro style offense.

Just like everything, of course, there are modified versions of the spread. But, it is essentially the same goal: to get skilled players in space. But you inferred that any spread could not be run in the SEC. Simply not true.

Thanks you Sparta...that statement registered as positive talk you hear at an introductory news conference...it violated some sacred ground rule apparently

But but we have big pockets too. Just look at how many coaches are still on the payroll

Other than the current staff, Dooley is the only coach we're still paying on I believe. I think we've paid off all the other contracts.

As for Bajakian, if he were offered, I couldn't blame him if he took it. The goal is to be a HC. This might be his shot. Go to BG, have success, move up the ladder. Yeah, it costs us the consistency of having a coaching staff in place for more than a season, which could hurt, but the man has to do what's best for his family. I won't begrudge him that.

He gets to have the guys that Clawson recruited. They run a similar offense, so he wouldn't have to do complete overhaul. If he's offered it, he should take it.

Moving forward and progressing is what a motivated and ambitious person does right? I would do the same thing if I was in the position :good!: I am always looking to better my position in my career...I've moved across country twice to do so...can't blame anyone for doing it.

This was written before the season, right? I'd like to see the recalculation.

Everyone is hating on this staff...all knowing they have no talented depth/and or lack experience at multiple positions.
Right. And if ANYONE had expected an SEC championship then you'd have a point. Seeing that most were only looking for 6 wins and a bowl... you have no point. If well coached, this was a 7 win roster. With avg coaching, it was a six win roster. Five wins is simply subpar.

But I thought this was very interesting when I saw it at the beginning of the season. I keep going back to it because it proves that teams under this staff have gotten better at a high efficiency.
Not quite. It proves that the unique situations he inherited at Cincy and CMU went well. He followed Kelly at both places. Neither place offered the level of competition the SEC does.

Add this to Butch Jones HC'ing record is why I remain positive and believe we have a "REAL FOOTBALL COACH" here. Along with his obvious ability to recruit I still believe the sky is the limit for us here.
I don't have time to count it up again but the combined records of the teams he beat at Cincy was well under 50% wins. He won't face that at UT.

His recruiting is exceptional but to keep it up he has to show something on the field starting next fall. He can't keep getting blown out and losing to the likes of Vandy. If he doesn't, recruiting will dry up.

And btw...I know this staff made some bad calls and decisions at times. All staffs do it....pro's and college. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It is why the game is played....and you learn from those mistakes.
I hope so. I hope they are as good next year as they were bad this year. I hope their offseason program has the talent they've assembled ready to shock the world when they show up in August.

This year was a strike against them... I hope they hit a homerun next fall... or at least a single.
