Boycott Organic Food?

That has much more to do with being local (and picked at the right time, probably not refrigerated, etc.) than being organic I would imagine.

This. I think most people care more about it being fresh than organic.

By what measure? There is no scientifically proven nutritional difference, and on Penn & Teller, 70-80% of taste-testers chose non-organic foods.

You are sourcing a las vegas act taste test?

next your going to try to tell me the truth about bottled water

From what I've read over the past few years, I haven't seen a figure as high as 50% from China. Also, depends on what is imported. I do know that about 80% of canned mushrooms are imported from China. Most of the frozen, maybe even some or much of all fish in the corp markets come from outside the country. There's big concern brewing that perhaps as much as 80% of the imported fish from most countries is mislabeled as to the species packaged. I'l still opt for the natural/organic for the majority of my diet. I buy from local businesses and farmer's markets because I know the people I purchasing from. I've been to their farms and talked to them at the markets. It's not all organic coming from locals but I know what goes on the growing food and what is in it. I can pick and chose. Most don't have the time or inclination to research what they ingest. I do. When you read a report, it's best to dig a little deeper to see who actually contributed to the report. Or, who might stand to gain from a negative or favorable. Example-water here sucks. But, Hill AFB put out a ground water report last year stating there is no jet fuel, rocket fuel, etc. in the ground water. So, what's the chance this is an honest report? I think none. Anyway, it is best to be aware exactly where, as far as can be determined, our food is coming from. FDA in this country isn't the greatest on safety concerns. It's been watered down somewhat over the past 10 years or so. What hurts the organics is the big corps buying them out. They can still operate under the organic umbrella and not even be close to natural or organic.

At least I can name my source (and if you watch the show you know they do their homework). Funny how you didn't pick on my other sources (Reason Magazine and food policy analyst, Alex Avery).

It was organic banana vs non-organic banana. Organic apple vs non-organic apple. Granola hippies who claimed organic tastes better continuously chose non-organic in the blind test.

there isn't much taste difference in those items. Try grapes, onions or peaches. Huge difference.

It doesn't really matter, is the point. Nobody can really tell the difference. They cut a non-organic banana in half and told testers the one on the right was organic. People raved about how its flavor and consistency was much superior, in embarrassingly specific detail. You think organic onions taste better because you know you're eating organic and psychologically you think it tastes better.

No they actually have a stronger smell and are harder to cut. Go buy one of you don't believe me.

If you lie to them before the test, all you're proving is that they are brainwashed to think organic tastes better.

Test would have been better served if they had no information on either fruit.

They did the test both ways. Completely blind and telling them the lie.

In the interest of accuracy, I said 50% of organic food comes from China. It's only 20%. The point remains the same. You don't know what standards are met just because it has an organic label.

Bottom line is the organic food cult is a religion to a lot of consumers (so they don't care about facts) and most of the producers of organic food are big business (so they are happy to ignore the facts as well).

Not really.

I'm pretty sure I know what point I was making. The point was 1/2 organic food items could be full of the most toxic crap on earth. Now the point is 1/5 organic food items...

The odds still aren't good.

Is this a comment on food or religion?

Move?

To where? My high paying job is in the middle of an urban sprawl. It's nice that I can walk to work from my apartment.

Of course, I'm talking what-ifs...
