1) It's a lateral move in Div.1
2) He would be leaving a better program then the one he would be inheriting (NCAA violations)
There's no motivation, whatever money UT throws at him, Butler will likely match.
2.5-3x his current salary would surely make him listen.
I agree with Tenacious. This could be done if UT want him bad enough, like bama want Saban.
Valid point. But by the time you "know" who they're going to be, its often too late (big program locks them up long-term).

Here's a novel idea: What if Stevens is happy with Butler? He seems to be doing pretty well there (we, after all, are sitting at home while he's on the verge of back-to-back final fours). He seems to like the school that gave him his first shot. He makes plenty of money.
More money, a larger stage, and better competition doesn't mean squat if the guy is content where he is.

Thank you. I wanted to say that but couldn't have done it as well.I don't agree that it's a "lateral move" in any regard. Butler has 4,000 students, Tennessee has 26,000+ (6x as many)
Butler is a member of the Horizon League, with Wright State, Green Bay, Cleveland State, etc. and Tennessee is a member of the SEC, the nation's premier conference.
Butler's athletic budget is $11M in TOTAL, with $1.7M going toward bball. Tennessee's athletic budget is $71M (+$60M), with $6.1M going for men's bball (+$4.4M).
Butler played three games on national television (ESPN, CBS) during their regular season (and this, after an appearance in the championship game, just the year prior). Conversely, Tennesse played in ten (+7).
Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse was built in 1928 and seats 10,000 people - which recent renovations actually reduced it from 15K seats - TBA was built in 1987 and seats 24,000+.
Butler has no practice facilty, while Tennessee has the recent Pratt Pavilion.
This is not directed solely at you, Okla - but to anyone who continues to believe that Tennessee lacks the means to lure Stevens away from Butler, or that this is somehow a step down from the "lofty" heights of Butler's program - which is, frankly, delusional. It likely speaks more to our lack of faith in the UTAD doing it, than Butler's ability to prevent it.
It shouldn't be a matter of can Tennessee get him, but will they - and when? Given the choice between the two schools battling for him, which side would you prefer to be on?
If a coach sees things that way he will never win the big ones consistently. Here's a novel idea: What if Stevens is happy with Butler?
