Well you guys are always saying we need to recruit Atlanta hard. Hopefully his short stint with Atlanta is still fresh in some 17 year old's mind.

UT isnt even my #1 basketball team and Im pissed....Seriously? of all the hot names you can at least take a stab at UT gets someone nobody has even heard of. WOW......Just wow.

What makes everyone in the University think that we need 'up and coming'? OMFG, this is the worst case scenario!

We coulda had this guy AFTER the rest of the other guys we were targeting turned us down.

I am going to vomit!

'up and coming'=gamble

Which seems to be a theme with Hammy hires.

We will see what happens but i'm not sure we thought this one out. Its only been like a week. C'mon Man

While I support the coach and am willing to give him a chance, it still feels like we went to Kmart and got the blue light special. Spend all this money on facilities and we get bargain basement coaches.

And it's way too early to use Dooley as an example of this approach being successful. He's proven nothing, yet.

Here's the problem: if this guy runs the program into the ground and we have to fire him we are back to square one. The whole deal before this hire was that Pearl made it possible to hire someone who could elevate the program. There is not one time in Tennessee history we couldn't hire someone on Cuenzo Martin's level. The hire sucks. The opportunity was wasted. The administration took the cheap way out. Fire Mike Hamilton.

And I will be completely behind this guy and rooting for him, but for the life of me, I don't see why we hired him.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

They need to find another team. They're *****ing and moaning and know nothing of him because he isn't on ESPN all the time. Those people need to get a grip and do a little research.

He's been HC at Mizz St for three years. He could end up being the next great HC. Of course at the time some said the same thing about Buzz Peterson.

But what it comes down to is that while the future is unknown, what is known is that UT ended up hiring a young, inexperienced, raw up and comer. I think it shows the state of our program and administration when instead of being able to hire a more proven established coach we yet again go with a young unproven gamble.

Three years head coaching experience. Best finish NIT second round. I guess we have to face the reality of where we are at in our BB program. But it's hard to accept that reality.

Reality just hit; I guess the other teams fans are right after all. Must have been 10-15 other names mentioned. I challenge anyone to find somewhere this name was mentioned before the announcement. I will except being wrong but if he is the "right" guy, surely he was mentioned ahead of time.

I love that so many people are delusional enough to think they have any idea how good this guys can be as UT Men's Basketball Coach.

Oh yeah and let me add a big hearty laugh at all the people calling for Hamilton's head because you dont like this hire. If you think Hamilton made this hire then that lack of ability to think clearly is probably that same thing that led you to hate this hire with no actual facts about him.

Sounds Italian - Calipari, Valvano, Izzo, Pitino, Auriemma.

He is a black dude from East St Louis, IL...
Actually, he is probably a good pick up...he has overcame a rough childhood, he is a cancer survivor...
He will be a great motivator

I was on an sec board back when Auburn hired Gene Chizik as football coach. The AU posters went into a state of complete meltdown. So, the obvious point is. . .how the hell does anyone know whether or not Martin will succeed at UT? I've heard very good things about the man, but I'm of the mind to reserve judgment on the hire until I see what kind of product he puts on the court. Most would have jumped up and down over Shaka, but no one here can definitively say that Shaka or most of the other candidates are any better than the man we hired. Regardless, he is ours so we might as well quit the bickering and get on board.

:salute:

The thing that I think is being ignored
He wasnt afraid of any sanctions or whatever. he seems like a good coach who even with cra.p players heloped his team win games. Now we still have to see how much of a recruiter he is, but I think this is a good hire
