Whether this is a bad, good, or great hire only time will tell but the hire went as I said. Someone nobody was considering. Check my post I new we we're not getting any of the "name" coaches. It is not TN's MO.

Sure sounds like a bunch of football posters are in the hoops forum. Didn't I hear a bunch about a low key, low expectation stuff about coach Dooley last year?

Since Cuonzo Martin coached a team with one and two star recruits for three years while taking the program to heights not seen since 1999. I can say he was a heckuva hire. Missouri Sate will return four of five starters including the conference player of the year. Dock the university points for not extending his contract or resigning him.

UT gets a coach who knows defense, how to milk the last drop of effort out of his players and doesn't tolerate slackers. At Missouri St. the best players, not the most talented saw the most minutes. His last two teams went 24-12 and 26-9.

Martin has connections in the Big Ten and Missouri Valley areas. He's the fifth head coach from the Gene Keady tree following, Bruce Weber, Steve Lavin, Kevin Stallings and Matt Painter.

Do the research and prepare to reap the benefits. Doubters stick around and watch the program rise again.

Chizik is the exception , not the rule, and without Cam Newton the tigers would have been a mediocre team, as you will see this year.

You clearly don't know what he had to deal with and the talent he had when he arrived at Mo State! You forgot to mention in those 3 years that it included two 20 win seasons,a MVC Coach of the Year Award and a regular season MVC Championship.

I knew the answer. He is a QB coach. Good job making it sound better than reality. He will never be a top head coach period.

I hear that Texas, Michigan, and ..................have all been in contact recently with Shula. Do you believe me?

I bet he'll start turning heads around here if he brings in the likes of Trevor Lacey and Otto Porter while convincing Chris Jones and Kevin ware to stay aboard.

I can just see all the highly ranked players in the nation dying to play for a no-name coach. NOT!!!!!

Cuonzo Martin sounds about right for us. Mid-majors coach, up and coming. Considering his record at MO State, he has more coaching cred than did Derrick Dooley coming in. And with the mess our BB program is in, we're lucky to get him.

So being a QB coach in one the best cities in the country is a bad thing? You probably would've been better served using Mike Price to convey whatever point it was you were trying to make.

Complaining about posters is a way of life here at VN.:rolleyes:

Most on here act like they have all of the answers but all we really have are half-educated opinions. This guy had to live, eat and breath basketball his entire life, so I say wait and see.

Our recent troubles took us out of consideration for the coaches most of you wanted for the most part. This fellow is impressive if you listen to his sincerity when he speaks. If he holds this current team together, we will be fine. He might actually know how to improve the play of a team during a season. Something Pearl failed to achieve with this team this year. They regressed as the season went along.

Welcome, Coach Martin!! GO VOLS!!
