Breaking news: LSU to face Alabama in National Championship Game

Here is a Saban quote from a few years ago

He is responsible for this quote in regards to the Alabama and OK game a few years back:

"We’re the only two (contending) teams in the country that had to play a 13th game,” he said. “We had to do a little bit more to earn the right."

Where's Alabama's extra game this year to qualify for the championship game.

Awesome, now no matter who wins the national championship, Dooley can sell it to recruits. "Come to Tennessee and get your ass kicked by a/an deserving/undeserving National Champion"

What about the points I made do you disagree with? Do you not agree that college football has FAR AND AWAY the best regular season in all of sports? You know what makes that possible? The BCS. If it is eliminated, then it will destroy the regular season and make 99% of the games meaningless just like the NFL, NBA and MLB.

The BCS is far from perfect, but it's what allows college football to offer something that no other sport offers, a regular season where almost every weekend for 3 months you can sit down and watch at one if not MULTIPLE meaningful games. I for one enjoy that and am more than willing to give up a couple big games at the end of the year in exchange for getting big games every weekend throughout the season.

I love college football. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. But the BCS sucks. The way this all played out says that resumes don't matter and the Nov. 5 game didn't matter.

Any championship that OK St. would have won would have been equally undeserved. Neither them or Bama deserve a shot at LSU. Alabama is just the better of 2 unworthy options.
It just sucks that you have a team (bama) who beat no one meaningful, in the championship game. Instead of a Okie team that beat a good number of top 10-15 talent this year.
The SEC bias coming from espn is a joke.

Where's Oklahoma St's? In case you forgot, they didn't play in a conference championship game either.

Prove Alabama is a better team !!! At least Ok State won their conference. Bama couldn't win the conference division with home field advantage. Can anybody remember when winning conference championships use to mean something in the BCS ? Because it doesn't mean anything now.

No. Ok St throttled OU yesterday and played themselves into the game and won their conference. Bama should be like the 10-1 Vols of 1995 playing in the Citrus Bowl.

But a playoff would mean that no games in September or October will EVER matter again. I agree with you that the BCS isn't necessarily perfect, but it does add a hell of a lot of excitement to the full length of the season that no other sport offers. I'd hate to see CFB lose that uniqueness.

The uniqueness is all well and good, but shat like this is why we need at least a plua-one. The BCS needs to be overhauled.

Did you copy and paste that straight from the BCS page? Our so-called 'system' is a farce. We don't know for a fact that OSU wouldn't beat Alabama. The system sucks.

I disagree. A playoff awards a "hot team" at a specific time of the year. I know I am in the extreme minority on this, but I prefer the system we have now in college football over a playoff.

Nice Post!

Wrong. If the 11/5 game is decided before OT and by more than 3 points, the loser would have fallen further than Bama fell which would have prevented the re-match. The system presented the re-match because LSU and Bama are the best two teams in college football this year, and it's a significant step down to the #3 team.

If winning a conference is a requirement before being allowed to play in the title game, does this mean ND should never be allowed to play in one?

Face it, the conference title has never mattered in determining a national champion just as there are past super bowl champions who haven't won their division.
