I'm not calling you a sexual deviant. Bamacheats is the one running with that argument.

But you have a hangup. If your view of breasts as sexual objects wasn't overriding your view of breasts for their physiological purpose, you wouldn't be bothered by this.

It's a hangup. We all have them to one degree or another.

Ok so not sexually deviant, just a sexual hangup. Anyone who doesn't fall in like with the feed anywhere anytime crowd.

Even people who aren't necessarily opposed to public feeding, just find it rude to be doing it in the middle of a graduation ceremony while posing for photos.

You have the hangup and it's over other's sexual feelings towards the subject. Kind of weird IYAM.

Perhaps. But at least you can admit that your feelings on the subject involve sex.

The photos are an odd choice, but I fail to see what the setting has to do with the necessity to feed a child.

Correct me if I am wrong but the photo looked like a post graduation mingleing on the floor type of situation. Not during the ceremony.

I saw it as something like... Mom and dad were watching the baby during the ceremony. They brought her the baby after it was over and it was hungry so she stuck her on the boob. A picture was taken and for some reason she decided to share it on Facebook.

I do agree that posting the pic on Facebook was a bit much but as I said earlier, it's still classier than much of what people her age are probably posting on Facebook.

This is what the woman said about the photo:
"I found out I was pregnant my last year of college, had my daughter one week into my last semester, she was my motivation to keep going, so me receiving my BA was OUR moment," Thurman said, according to a post on the page.

She didn't post it on her Facebook page. She posted it on a Facebook page dedicated to black women breastfeeding.

I wouldn't have done the photo, and I sure wouldn't have posted it online....anywhere. But the craziness surrounding this is a clear indicator that some people just don't get it.

Those of you who were repulsed by the photo, did this one elicit the same reaction from you?

Cave people don't get it. Oh, wait. THEY probably did. It's the "modern day" ones that don't seem to.

The two photos aren't even close to the same type setting. Do you honestly think that there would be any type of response if the woman at the graduation had posted the pic from her home? There would be no discussion about it.

It got posted online either way. So, maybe a few more people saw the girl at the graduation, but both photos got the same distribution. What's the difference?

You have a hangup just like several other posters in this thread. Breasts are sex objects and seeing them serving another purpose freaks you out.

Explain to me what the setting has to do with it.

And I have news for you, a baby doesn't give a damn what your setting is when he gets hungry.

In that case I take back saying it was a bit much. She posted to a page that is about breastfeeding. Meaning you wouldn't have seen it unless you were going to a page about it to begin with (at least until it went viral).

After looking at it again it clearly was not DURING the graduation ceremony. I really don't see the big deal.

Yep. It's only a big deal cause people want to make it a big deal. But that's the way of the internet.

I think it's more the way of some people actually think and not necessarily the way of the internet. The internet brings issues to light, no doubt. Some people will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Sex objects? Breasts main purpose are for feeding a child, period.

Let me put this as simple as I can. I believe that breastfeeding should be done in private, if possible, due to the fact that I believe its something that bonds the mother and child and that no one or situation should interrupt that. That being said, I understand that sometimes things don't workout like they should, and breastfeeding babies get hungry while they are out and about. If you must feed them in public, I believe that doing so with some discretion is good practice. People also use pumps to get milk for use while they are out, and that milk will keep long enough to feed them on the run. I realize that not all breastfeeding babies will take a bottle, so all that needs to be done is to cover up the feeding and move along with your business. So, feeding in public has nothing to do with bonding, just the necessity of feeding itself. There are people who just don't want to see it, and it has nothing to do with thinking of it as a sexual thing, they just don't want to see it. I have no idea why that is so hard for some to understand that some people have no desire to see uncovered breastfeeding in public. So, by all means, feed your child if it needs to be fed, just don't expect that everyone feels its such a beautiful thing to watch in public, because not everyone does, but that shouldn't stop someone from doing what needs to be done, and it also shouldn't make you think any less of the other person who doesn't want to see it.

Eric what exactly is it that bothers you so much about it? Do you not like watch people eat? Is it the sucking action of the baby? Is the partially exposed breast?

Why exactly should nursing mothers have to go hide?

I don't get the "I support it but you should hide it" stance.

I just don't want to see it, so why is it that hard to accept some people don't want to see it? I'm not demonizing them for doing it, and I'm not going to protest it if they do, it's just as simple as I don't want to see it.

You could ignore it.

But even if you actually caught a glimpse of a breastfeeding woman in passing, what exactly is it that bothers you about it?

Boobs offend you?
