Bruce Pearl Suspended

It's working out great, but to assume that he could hire a good coach is questionable with Mike. People forget that a hire has to be made by an AD, and we have an AD that has missed on Kiffin and the baseball coach.

Don't act like you didn't love that hire like 99.9% of Vol fans at the time.

Fanbase and money haven't changed significantly in the last 20+ years. It was always present in Knoxville. As for recent success, we had that when Jerry Green left and it did not translate to Peterson AT ALL. Our "recruiting base" is due to Pearl, so there is absolutely no guarantee we hold on to that Base without CBP. I will concede that the facilities have definitely imporived.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think CBP is the only coach who can be successful at UT, but it's certainly not a slam dunk (pun intended) that any coach be successful.

Disagree. I remember when very few cared about basketball because we had football. Not that we have seen what a good basketball program can do, people now care.

It's not a slam dunk. However, there are good coaches who would take this job (assuming no big ncaa punishment to the school).

I don't think Ware/Jones would change their minds because Pearl was suspended just 8 games by the SEC. JMO though.

weren't they the two that already signed their letters of intent for us during the early signing period this month? (or last month, whenever it is for basketball)

The only reason the Kiffin hire was a mistake is because the USC job came open.

No, it was a bad hire because Kiffin didn't see it as a destination job. He wasn't committed to the University of Tennessee. He never embraced our tradition.

If the concept that paying competitive wages greaty increases your chances of hiring talented personnel is so revolutionary to you, being smarter than you is no great feat.

Let me slow it down for you pumpkin. I said paying competitive wages is not the ONLY thing that will bring taleted personnel to UT. Is that greaty enough for you?

I like you challenging my intellegence right after you either misspelled greatly, or aren't smart enough to proof read your own work. You choose.

zjc, you are all over the map bro! We had the facilities, the fanbase, the money with ONeill, Green and Buzz....um, how successful were we?

I disagree with the recruiting base and the success, upgrading of the facilities and increased fanbase are all due to Bruce.

I'm not saying that Bruce is the ONLY coach that can be successful, but too many UT fans think the next hire WILL produce instant success that Bruce had. It may happen but history and odds say that it won't.

Really now? We had Pratt Pavillion with those coaches? People were going to basketball games at TBA instead of traveling to Nashville to watch the Vandy game? We were willing to pay a coach in the top 15 to keep him?

The recruiting base is a little iffy. But in Atlanta, we have a really strong base. Can we keep it without Bruce. I don't know.

A good coach will have success here. There is no doubt in my mind. A lot of the onus is on Hamilton (who's hiring has been "eh", but the game at Tennessee has changed. The fanbase won't take a loser and give more due time like Buzz. The AD will want a successful basketball program unlike the situation with KO. We aren't so desperate to get a player we hire a father so his 5* son will come here.

You spelled intelligence wrong...just saying.

He has for us is the problem with your post. Transcendent means better, superior, unequaled or unmatched. Who else took us to the elite eight at UT? I don't have a blind loyalty. I see what is happening. I never said he shouldn't be fired. I just am saying it would be a bigger risk and more costly than keeping him. We have a good coach who, by all indications, wants to be here. And because of the cut in his salary due to what has happened, we actually have him at a better deal.

Would it be a risk? Yes. If this is all that happens (and a loss of a scholly or two, probation), then keep him. However, any postseason ban and he should be gone. Significant scholly losses and he should be gone. And if the NCAA tells UT "If you fire Bruce, your penalties will be very less severe", then can him.

I agree 100%, but being the salesman that our last coach was, how would MH have known this before the hire.

I agree. I don't blame Hamilton for hiring Kiffin, but the fact of the matter is that it didn't turn out to be a good hire.
