Not saying that is guaranteed but who knows what would happen to the program under a different coach. It only takes one bad hire for the basketball program to come crashing down.

I've seen that he will be suspended from coaching only and I have seen he will be suspended from all team activities. If the latter is true, what about the UCONN game.

So a question. Slive said he was suspended from coaching duties during a specified period of time that includes a time frame which OOC games are played. Does Bruce get to coach these?

I know it's a joke and impossible with both teams' schedules, but I actually think it would be a good idea. Either make a mockery of Slive and the SEC with the circus it creates or just turn a negative into positive publicity.

Maybe you could accomplish the mockery part with "celebrity coaches" sitting on the bench for one game each, or donors to help pay off the NCAA (joke).

Or, best of all, Phil Fulmer. I would LOL so hard.

Even if we did hire a bad coach, UT basketball can thrive. Here's why:

1) Recent history of great success.

2) The fans will no longer accept a loser. If a guy isn't winning in three years (not five), he'll be gone.

3) Great facilities.

4) Solid recruiting base (Atlanta).

5) The BoT will spend money on a good basketball coach.

Cant believe we are reduced to supporting a liar and a cheater just because we have won a few games! I actually care about Tennessee's character and believe we can win without cheating and lying! Bruce is not the only winning coach in America! We can get another good coach in here!

Well... his Sweet 16's outweigh all of UT's basketball history and his Elite 8 is better than anything anyone else has accomplished in 100 years or however long at UT.

If Pearl gets fired, Tennessee is most likely on probation. They will be hand picking another coach from the mid-majors and there aren't a lot of Bruce Pearl's to pick from. Pearl was only at UWMilwaukee because he was being black listed.

Im watching the Vandy vs WVU game on espnu right now and they were just talking about it. Said it was very confusing as to why 8 games, and why now. Also reiterated that the violations were because they were juniors... not seniors at his house. I guess 6 mths would make a big difference to the NCAA.

Said he would be allowed to coach the team on any day other than GAME day during the 8 game ban, as well as be allowed to coach a Jan. 22 game at Uconn

It's ok for you not to like Pearl, but to say you hope for a postseason ban is the dumbest thing I've heard.

Listen to the interview. The guys on the show talked about it all day how they thought that the holdup was Bruce and how they were surprised to hear it was the other way around. This may not be the case, but it's what was reported.

yes.. because weve always been able to get good coaches to come to UT! I forgot our long history of winning till u reminded me

Will you guys stop talking about Pearl getting fired. There is an obvious divide between those who don't support Pearl and those that do. However, it's pretty clear he isn't getting fired and this was once again confirmed on ESPN by Gottlieb.

There are good basketball coaches out there. You just have to look at results and what his plan to determine if he can succeed (and hire someone who is not cheating scum).

I love what Bruce has done here, but it's not like he won a national title, three final fours, and two SEC tourney titles while he's been here.
