Bruce Pearl Suspended

Listen to the interview. The guys on the show talked about it all day how they thought that the holdup was Bruce and how they were surprised to hear it was the other way around. This may not be the case, but it's what was reported.

Pearl is requesting changes to the contract, most likely trying to secure more job security. Like Hat said, the AD and General Counsel will not go for it.

I love what Bruce has done here, but it's not like he won a national title, three final fours, and two SEC tourney titles while he's been here.
I don't think Pearl has done a bad job by any means, but I hate that people seem to think our basketball program can never be good again. I also hate that they're the ones that call everyone else 'negavols.'

Cant believe we are reduced to supporting a liar and a cheater just because we have won a few games! I actually care about Tennessee's character and believe we can win without cheating and lying! Bruce is not the only winning coach in America! We can get another good coach in here!

Shhhh! Now you've done it, brought in clear thinking and exposed the truth. Really screws up the mentality in this place. Just watch.

Since when does lieing make you cheating scum? Have you never lied before?

Well, considering he has impermissable phone calls, did this stuff at UMW, and had juniors over to his house, knowing it was illegal, told the juniors to be hush-hush about it, and then when the NCAA got on his ass, told the parents to deny everything...yeah, that's scum.

yes.. because weve always been able to get good coaches to come to UT! I forgot our long history of winning till u reminded me

Youve never been able to get a good coach bc the university has never been willing to pay for one. Everyone has their price and they can hire just about anyone they want right now.

Also, this ban could be a good time to showcase one of the assistants as an interim HC. I would pick one with no connection to the sanctions but a chance to be good. Might end up with a Pastner-like hire if Pearl is fired.

Shouldn't the AA's report on the investigation be ready about the time his suspension is over? May not wanting him coaching until the report is out to prevent forfeiting any games.....that is if he gets hammered which is probable.

so he's been punished by UT and SEC. will the NCAA punish him as well? is there a list of the penalties out there?

Pearl probably want a big buyout in the new contract since Mike Hamilton was stupid enough to give Phil and Lane big money to leave! Only reason Mike Hamilton hasnt fired Pearl yet is because it was his only positive contribution to UT other than the Stadium improvements! But once a turd hits the water you cant pluck it out and call it clean water again.........if must be flushed!

There were several Tiger fans that thought we were doomed for mediocrity and failure once Cal left. Its funny how much attitudes have changed in a mere 18 months.

Why? Do we have players that are potentially ineligible?

I get it now. As I said, it was a confusing interview. The three on the program were even taken aback. I just wanted clear up that my hearing wasn't the issue.

There are two trains of thoughts, and both are legitimate points of view.

1. It's really hard to argue for bringing in another coach with the history of failure at basketball.

2. It's also hard to argue against the fact that we have great facilities and Pearl has brought recognition to our program.

I tend to want to go with the guy that has been here, barring anything major dropping besides what we already know which Hamilton said isn't the case over bringing in someone else and having to start over new. But I can see the other point of view too.

People forget Ray Mears would have had more sweet sixteen's had the tourney been 64, not 16 or 20 or whenever it was. I just am really disappointed that people think he's the be all to end all of basketball. You have guys like Gregg Marshall out there that would be a great fit here (assuming he's a good recruiter). I honestly think Lawrence Frank would like the job. I just am disappointed in the hypocrisy in the UT fanbase quite honestly. Here's Lane Kiffin, committed some minor violations, and people call him a cheater/liar, whatever. Bruce does MAJOR violations and lies about it, and it "a honest mistake." Sad.

from how it's worded on the ESPN article, he will not be allowed to participate in team events just on game days

The problem is that everyone thought Buzz was a great coach with what he did at Tulsa and Appalachian St. Hiring someone at a lesser conference or Lawrence Frank who may have another job in the NBA is uncertain and the fans who like the basketball program winning don't like uncertainty. The only hypocrisy is those supporting Kiffin but bashing Pearl. Haven't really seen the people who called Kiffin a cheater supporting Pearl.

You're pretty ignorant in general, so it's not a surprise that you might think this. However, none of our assistants have any chance at coaching here full-time. Unless Slive starts telling us who we have to hire, too.

Who thought Buzz was a great coach? MJ?

that's where you are wrong. Bruce did not committ major violations... he committed MINOR violations and lied about them. He is not in trouble for the violations.. he is in trouble for lying about them.

Which part? Thanks for the kind words

No one with a basketball IQ above 5 thought Buzz was a good coach.

Of course it's easy to say that after the TN job, but Hat and other will tell you that Buzz was highly regarded as a coach with what he did at Tulsa and Appy St. Then when he came to UT, he clearly stunk. But that is my point, some of the coaches you want to hire are highly regarded at mid-level conferences, but we don't know what they will do at a big program.
