Bruce Pearl Suspended

Not at all. Peterson does, will, and always has sucked. Look at Tulsa's program in the 20 years before they made the fatal mistake of hiring him. Look at what they've done since.

Fancher did just fine at Appy and Capel will, as well. You gave two examples of guys who didn't do well there, one of whom was a burnout just cashing a check. How many coaches have they had since Cremmins? It's a good SoCo job. Peterson's performance there was nothing special.

They have had 5.

Cantwell: 61-78 with 0 Conf. Titles and 0 NCAA Appearances

Apke: 139-147 with 0 and 0

Buzz (96-00; 09-10) 103-52 4 Conf. Titles and 1 NCAA Appearance

Fancher: 137-136 3 Conf. Titles and 0 NCAA Appearances

So once again, you were wrong just admit it.

I don't get why people think firing Pearl will change anything. UT will get sanctions from the NCAA whether or not we fire Pearl. I don't think we get any from the NCAA, but firing Pearl fixes nothing. He is the BEST thing to happen to UT men's basketball. Jones will coach the team while Pearl is suspended and should do fine. Geez people, enough is enough. Pearl is not going anywhere.

Pearl may be in touch with other schools, who knows, it’s happened before with other coaches. I'm starting to think he may need to hit the high road, 50-50.

Cant believe we are reduced to supporting a liar and a cheater just because we have won a few games! I actually care about Tennessee's character and believe we can win without cheating and lying! Bruce is not the only winning coach in America! We can get another good coach in here!

I know that lying to the NCAA was a terrible decision, but are you saying that if somebody lies once under pressure that he is now to be labeled a liar for the rest of his life? I mean, I'm not going to stick my head, but some of you all are brutal (and probably liars too by your definition).

BTW, Gottlieb just said his sources told him the SEC did this to show the NCAA that with what UT did and what the SEC did to Pearl is enough and should bring closure to everything. If this is the case, Slive could actually be smart.

I doubt Slive is working on any deal with the NCAA at this point. Did he punish LSU for paying a player last year after the school already dealt with it?

Slive needs to concentrate on Auburn and deal with the mess that will cost him his job not try and look tough on every team but Auburn, he is going to create a lot of enemies this way.

Actually Slive is smart to cover his tail. He was over the appeals process for the NCAA so he knows what it takes to limit the punishment for a money maker in his conference.

Slive is trying to C.H.O.A. Plain and simple. It's obvious he has let things get out of hand in the SEC, and he is trying to pretend his is getting a grasp on things, and Pearl is his target.

I think this authority was just confirmed at this years meeting. I really don't imagine Slive gives a flying **** how many friends he makes right now. He is just setting the stage for what he knows he is going to have to handle when the Camburglar situation comes to a head.

zjc, dude, are you disputing Pearl's success here? Argue against his mistakes with recruits, but to say that Pearl hasn't been successful just ruins your point.

There may be other "Pearl's" in the coaching ranks, but I can see another string of Greens and Petersons before we would land one of the same caliber as Bruce.

Where did I dispute his success? I did not. What I'm saying is people treat him like royalty. He's not. Sure, he's taken UT to places it's never been. However, it's not like he has been transcendent in any capacity. He isn't a top 5 coach. And a lot of people are desperate to keep him, and I understand. But it's not like he's has national titles, final fours, and conference tourneys.

Pearl should and needs to stay. He brought a passion back to the men's basketball program. Yea he lied, and he knows he made a mistake. I'm going to go out on a limb and say we all have made the same mistake in our own lives. Its time to rally behind him and show him our support.

Considering he cheated on his wife for months, that probably doesn't help the "he lied just once" case.

I love you throwing around regular season SoCo titles as if they mean something. Peterson didn't do anything of substance there. Fancher had more wins against high majors over the years there than Peterson and Apke approximated it. Cremins was so much better there it wasn't funny. If it makes all of you Pearl sycophants, who still look like a bunch of clowns for believing he was anything more than the laying charlatain he is, act as if all UT fans are so basketball ignorant they expected great things out of Michael Jordan's valet, have at it. I'll just sit back and watch you all try and explain why UT can't hire a competent basketball coach when they are paying above market rate.

If this is all that comes out, I'm good. However, ANY postseason ban, and he needs to be fired.

Also, if UT is willing to spend $2M on a coach, we can get a pretty good one.

And which coach at UT did have any of those? He may not be top 5, but are you saying our next coach, if Bruce is fired, will be.

He isn't royalty and it isn't close. What gets me is the implicit trust Vol fans have for the guy. I've had fun watching the tourney runs, but I think he would leave for an opportunity at the drop of a hat.

He is not irreplaceable. If UT continues its commitment to the program we could be just as well off without him, especially considering recent events.

Yes, they did.
You really are the most useless poster we've ever had here. His peers almost to a man, with the expection of his pals in the Bible thumping wing of the profession, have always considered Peterson a clown. Of course, you'll doubt that the same way you claimed none of us actually knew he was a lying snake.

Once again you just can't admit you were wrong and note that Buzz was the only one that has had good success after Cremins. Just admit, you were wrong.

Oh, here we go. You get proved wrong with stats, and then you start with bashing. Typical hatvol.

I"m late to the party ITT...

#1. Pearl did some dumb stuff with the BBQ.

#2. What is the precedent for a conference taking action on a coach for violating NCAA rules?

#3. Isn't it kind of well known that the SEC administrators (aka the good ol boy club) dislike Pearl?

Let's say this: The blind loyalty the guy is receiving makes me scratch my head. I don't know if the next guy can. He'll have a great opportunity because, right now, UT is a great place to coach basketball (thanks, in large part, to Bruce Pearl). But like I said, my point is that he really hasn't done anything transcendent, but people are willing to risk a postseason ban to keep him. That, that's just sad.
