It is a valid point . Things did happen on his watch at UNC. Doesn't mean it will continue.

That's what I was thinking. He left Coker in great shape & it took Coker a couple of years to tear it down. UNC stint was forcefully ended. He had them stacked more so than they have ever been b4 that whole mess crumbled like a house of cards.

While at UNC ......


Butch Davis was 0-4 against Tom O'Brien (who was fired) and NC State while having superior talent each time.

Butch Davis was 0-2 against Al Groh (who was fired and has been fired again since) and Virginia while having superior talent each time.


Yeah, let's hire Butch Davis.......brilliant idea.

I think Davis was really good back when he was the DC at Dallas under Jimmie Johnson and when he was the HC at U of Miami. But after that it's been downhill with Cleveland Browns and four years at North Carolina (12-23). Add the NCAA investigation at UNC in 2010.

I don't put full stock in how a coach does in the nfl because they have to deal with gm's. Bad gm's make a good coach look bad. No matter what great coach my redskins got he was gonna look like sheet until the gm Vinny was fired.

What if the whole Gruden thing was just to appease the fanbase? The reason I say that is they knew they would have to give more than they were willing to land him (control or money). Hart may have played this so he could get who he wanted at the price he wanted.

Think about it. Hart may not want a coach who is more powerful than him from day one.

Butch never got to more than 8 wins at UNC. Larry Fedora got them to 8 with a lot less talent than Davis had and was nine points away from going 11-1.

He got them to 8 wins with all of Davis' recruits. Let's see how Fedora does over the next 4 years.

Butch Davis' track record as a recruiter and talent evaluator is top notch.

No, Im just comparing it to UNC's football history. They haven't won a conference title since 1980, he had them in the hunt for it and had people talking about them in a Positive way again. Also, you cant say he did that bad, UNC has had a better record than UT for 5 years Running. Whether its the ACC or the SEC is beside my point, the fact is they have had a better winning percentage than UT for 5 years in a ROW. All of which was Butch Davis coaching/recruiting and Fedora coaching Davis's recruits. I think Fedora is a good coach, but that doesn't mean Davis wasn't
