Butch Davis

Go to Bathroom. Wipe Butt. Post online. Congrats you are now a Bleacher Report writer.

The man can recruit too!...He has a lot of Florida connections and big connections in south florida...He is the type of national recruiter we can use...Plus he has given really good teams fits in the past.

No, Im just comparing it to UNC's football history. They haven't won a conference title since 1980, he had them in the hunt for it and had people talking about them in a Positive way again. Also, you cant say he did that bad, UNC has had a better record than UT for 5 years Running. Whether its the ACC or the SEC is beside my point, the fact is they have had a better winning percentage than UT for 5 years in a ROW. All of which was Butch Davis coaching/recruiting and Fedora coaching Davis's recruits. I think Fedora is a good coach, but that doesn't mean Davis wasn't

I'm very aware of UNC's football history, or lack there of. The term "sleeping giant" has been thrown around in regards to that program for as long as I can remember, I'm 30. It hasn't happened. I'm not sure that it will, especially after the scandal that took place under Butch's watch. I know he was totally cleared of all wrong doing, but to be that oblivious of all the wrong doing that was going on at UNC is ridiculous. I don't want a football coach that was that negligent. He had an associate head coach that was an upper level exec for an Agency and was funneling money, a known cheater at that. You talk about the talent at Caroliona, how the hell do you think he got some of these guys that were choosing UNC over Bama or UT or UGA? His son's tutor was writing papers for players and sleeping with those guys as well. I find it incredibly hard to believe he was that much in the dark, and if he were I don't want a guy that could be again. Especially a guy that would hire John Blake. I call bull**** on his "babe in the woods" routine.

Considering who is available I think we need to look short term gain for now. If Davis came I think he could get us relevant in a couple years tops.

This makes the job really attractive when he retires.

Then that home run candidate will come.

I like the way you think.

Davis, at UNC, never won more than four conference games. He was 24-15 (12-12) his last three years at UNC. In 2008, they went 8-5. In 2010, they went 8-5.

He never finished better than third at UNC.

Davis is not the answer.

Also, Larry Fedora took his team, under sanctions, and won just as many games at UNC in year one as Butch Davis did at four. And also won more conference games than Davis ever did.

The fact he went 8-5 in 2010 was nothing short of amazing.

This. Citing a guy's W-L record without understanding the context gives a pretty misleading perspective on his abilities.

I'm on the Butch Davis bandwagon, I think. He's one of the best recruiters in the country, bar none, and plays the style of football it takes to win in the SEC.

As for the observation that Fedora's winning with Davis's players, well, yeah. Davis recruited a really solid team, and not just by UNC standards. Larry Coker won a national championship with Davis's players, too. You'd be hard pressed to find a Miami fan who'd rather have Coker than Davis.
