Butch Davis

I think it's important to remember that, when he was at a traditional football powerhouse, he recruited the greatest college football team of all time.

Andre Johnson
Sean Taylor
Kellen Winslow
Antrel Rolle
Jonathan Vilma
Jeremy Shockey
Vince Wilfork
Willis McGahee
Ed Reed
Clinton Portis
Devin Hester
Frank Gore
Najeh Davenport

...all on the same team at the same time. That's mind-boggling.

With Gruden out-of-the-picture and the fact Davis is readily avaible I wouldn't be surprised his name along with Jim Tressel is on the list. It would be far easier to get someone like Davis or Tressel due to the fact they're not tied to any program than say Golden, Fisher, Strong or Fedora who are.

If I'm to understand the criteria as 1) winning more than UT, and 2) recruiting better talent than UT, then I would assume you would consider Lane Kiffin to be a good choice. C'mon man! Butch Davis got fired from UNC. That's who you want coaching UT?

WOW. I'm sure there was nothing unethical going on with that team though...

Not to be that guy, but didn't our own Phil Fulmer take a UT team into Miami and beat this team 10-6?

Just Sayin!!

Probably, but (a) the NCAA didn't ding them -- and you know they would have loved to, and (b) the same stuff is almost certainly going on at Alabama today, 11/30/12. Being on the ragged edge of the rules is the price of winning championships, it seems.

I believe we need somebody like Butch Davis. He knows how to pull a program out of the shi*ter and we need a football team that can consitantly win and I think he can do that. I know he's a little on the old side but we need the short term gain of an experienced coach. We can always introduce a coach in waiting scenario at a later date to take over once Butch retires.

Davis at this point is my favorite to get the job...Doesn't mean he will but I wouldn't be upset if they got him...He wouldn't break the bank either...Could bring in some good assistants too...Could be what we need to fix this mess.

Considering who is available I think we need to look short term gain for now. If Davis came I think he could get us relevant in a couple years tops.

This makes the job really attractive when he retires.

Then that home run candidate will come.

this is my 2nd choice after g patterson.he knows how to rebuild programs.brian kelly and butch davis was my choices when lk was hired.

Davis is my top choice after JG.
2nd would be Mora.

I think those are the top 2 realistic candidates.

Stoops, Gundy, Shaw, and Peterson are not coming.

Would take Tressell, though I'd be cautious.

After that, it's Fulmer.

Unless its a surprise big name or NFL guy, that's it for me.
