Butch Jones blaming negativity surrounding his program on the Tennessee fanbase

I’m enjoying the savage takedowns of Butch in this thread. Keep them coming.

One red flag about Butch I saw was him parading around in his $120k Mercedes in those AD produced short films. He was totally out of touch.

On a side note, it's interesting how he perceives his role at Alabama. He was just an analyst, with a $35K per year salary. Even Saban referred to it as being that of a "glorified intern." However, Butch includes his time there as having "been in the SEC ... ," .... as though, he was an actual staff member.

As far as Tennessee's fan base having a vested interest in Arkansas State is concerned (Butch called it 'invested'), we care only to the extent that it makes us laugh. It just so happens that 73-0 is pretty funny.

Tennessee fans can sure hold a grudge.

Or maybe Butch just brings that out in people.
He is being very thin-skinned here. What other head coach would bring up the fan base of a school they were fired from 6 years ago, right after losing 73-0? It seems like he would have more important things to worry about.

This fanbase does hate harder than most..
And more vocally.

So without reading the article I would say he may have a point
That's ridiculous.

Losing 73-0 will bring negativity to any FBS program which has a shred of pride, and Arkansas State used to, before they hired Butch.

Butch is a sensitive guy. He was at Tennessee as well. That's where the infamous "5 Star Hearts" and "Champions of Life" comments came from. He always had this need to respond to the public blowback from disappointing and/or embarrassing results. How about working on your own ability to develop talent, and on making in-game adjustments? They suck.

Yeah. Maybe if the writer had any clue, he would have mentioned Jones’ Alabama stint and antics. But as it is just makes it looks like Volunteer crying.
Yeah, the 2018 and 2019 photos of Butch with a cigar was really bad. Butch's bad recruiting evaluations and bad player development were the reason Bama was able to beat us so easily, so it was rubbing the fans noses in that fact. The writer did make a point that TN fans care about Butch more than Dooley, because we got closer to being back during Butch's 9 win seasons than we ever did during Dooley (or Pruitt or Lane for that matter).

Butch: “I don’t pay attention to that stuff”.

Also Butch: Entirely aware of what is being said and who is saying it.
Hearing what everyone was saying was one of his biggest problems when he was here. He was too concerned with optics, narrative, and PR, which made him 100 times worse and coach way too uptight and scared to lose. He also had a commit waiting to announce every time we had a bad loss.

Yep, which is why Shane Beamer is Butch 2.0. He cares way too much about that kind of outside noise. I would actually believe Heupel if he said he didn't pay attention to outside noise, just because of his personality.

I'm not a fan of piling on and kicking a dead horse over and over, but Jones would be well advised to stop even a mention of UT or especially the fan base. Not sure how he believes this could possibly help his situation.

The man has become a pathetic case at this point, and really needs to be fired and put out of his misery already. And then get the hell away from CFB.

He will be fired and maybe before the season is finished. And the Tennessee fan base will have nothing to do with it.

Yes ... and I would also cite the "points chart" reasoning he used for not going for 2 when Tennessee had a 26-14 lead in the 4th quarter vs Florida in 2015. It made no sense, but Butch would always respond to criticism with something stupid.

Yes, the most scared, playing not to lose coached game ever. If we get first downs any of our last 2 possessions, we run out the clock. But we ran it three straight times. If we just roll Dobbs out, he can probably either run or get an easy 1st down pass. And then we never blitzed the immobile Will Grier and sat back in a prevent which caused the 4th and 16 Antonio Callaway play.

Whoa whoa whoa WHOA. Forget all the rest of this article. Hold up. I want to focus on this comment from ol' Butch -

"Trust me, I've been in the SEC for eight years."

What the fresh hell is this? Eight years? EIGHT? So ol' Butch is counting his four years either going to or coming from the Wet'n'Wax in Tuscaloosa as part of his "time in the SEC." Did the inordinately heavy lifting involved in taking Saban's suits out of the trunk add to his understanding of the Southeastern Conference? Or was it the SEC-like speed he displayed in getting those hot coffee trays all the way back to the football facility?

That's ridiculous. That's downright ridiculous.

And absolutely, 100%, typical Butch Jones.

There is not a damn points chart, which says kick the extra point with a 12 point lead in the 4th quarter. Florida did not have time to kick two field goals and score a touchdown. They only had time for two possessions ... barring an onside kick recovery. There was no reason to not go for two. Butch is an idiot.
