He is being very thin-skinned here. What other head coach would bring up the fan base of a school they were fired from 6 years ago, right after losing 73-0? It seems like he would have more important things to worry about.Tennessee fans can sure hold a grudge.
Or maybe Butch just brings that out in people.
That's ridiculous. This fanbase does hate harder than most..
And more vocally.
So without reading the article I would say he may have a point
Yeah, the 2018 and 2019 photos of Butch with a cigar was really bad. Butch's bad recruiting evaluations and bad player development were the reason Bama was able to beat us so easily, so it was rubbing the fans noses in that fact. The writer did make a point that TN fans care about Butch more than Dooley, because we got closer to being back during Butch's 9 win seasons than we ever did during Dooley (or Pruitt or Lane for that matter).Yeah. Maybe if the writer had any clue, he would have mentioned Jones’ Alabama stint and antics. But as it is just makes it looks like Volunteer crying.
Hearing what everyone was saying was one of his biggest problems when he was here. He was too concerned with optics, narrative, and PR, which made him 100 times worse and coach way too uptight and scared to lose. He also had a commit waiting to announce every time we had a bad loss.Butch: “I don’t pay attention to that stuff”.
Also Butch: Entirely aware of what is being said and who is saying it.
Yep, which is why Shane Beamer is Butch 2.0. He cares way too much about that kind of outside noise. I would actually believe Heupel if he said he didn't pay attention to outside noise, just because of his personality. There is a difference between a true high football acumen coach, recruiter, humble leader and a brick head 5 * PT Barnum

I'm not a fan of piling on and kicking a dead horse over and over, but Jones would be well advised to stop even a mention of UT or especially the fan base. Not sure how he believes this could possibly help his situation.
The man has become a pathetic case at this point, and really needs to be fired and put out of his misery already. And then get the hell away from CFB.
Yes ... and I would also cite the "points chart" reasoning he used for not going for 2 when Tennessee had a 26-14 lead in the 4th quarter vs Florida in 2015. It made no sense, but Butch would always respond to criticism with something stupid.Hearing what everyone was saying was one of his biggest problems when he was here. Yes, the most scared, playing not to lose coached game ever. If we get first downs any of our last 2 possessions, we run out the clock. But we ran it three straight times. If we just roll Dobbs out, he can probably either run or get an easy 1st down pass. And then we never blitzed the immobile Will Grier and sat back in a prevent which caused the 4th and 16 Antonio Callaway play.the core reason we lost that 2015 Florida game in Gainesville
There is not a damn points chart, which says kick the extra point with a 12 point lead in the 4th quarter. Florida did not have time to kick two field goals and score a touchdown. They only had time for two possessions ... barring an onside kick recovery. There was no reason to not go for two. Butch is an idiot.the core reason we lost that 2015 Florida game in Gainesville
