And by thought provoking you mean being neutral? Not speaking your belief? Debate and disagreements are the cornerstone of all good message boards.
I'm a Mormon and yes we follow it.
One could argue Jesus was a"liberal" in his time . He was persecuted for his teachings against the Jewish hierarchy (thePharisees). Baylor is a private Baptist university, guess winning was more important. This country needs to reset it's moral compass.
this exists in all religions. From crusaders to jihadists....the lunatic fringe ruins it for the rest. This is what I was alluding to in a previous post. Some follow the "Scripture as word, period" line, including some of the more unsavory elements in the Old Testament. As some folks have posted these verses, even though they do not represent Catholic teaching, or most Protestant teaching for that matter. But the fact that there are extremists that remain, preaching about all these parts of the Old Testament that is supposed to be more of a historical record as opposed to theology, completely freaks people out. Then the reaction occurs towards all Christians that they are bigots, etc.
I can see that. The way I look at it is God gave me a brain to think and eyes to read and ears to hear. I have all of the tools to interpret the gospel the way I see fit. I can join any denomination I want. I have that freedom. This is where I finally feel peace in my life and joy. This is my attempt to live after death. Other folks are free to choose any way they want and I'll never poke fun or make light of their attempt to get to heaven. This is what I was alluding to in a previous post. Why would I study a book that was written by a man on how to live my life unless it was Tony Robbins or Barack Obama? Seriously? You guys need to chill. Believe what YOU want. I will do the same. It is ridiculous and only proving what I believe to be the case in some of these holier than thou comments.

The beautiful thing about religion is that we're all wanting the same result but we all have different ways to get it. Some people act like morons if you don't think like they do but that's really no different than vol fans hating bama fans. We all like football but want everyone to pull for our team because we think it's the best.
Hey alright. Fair enough answer. I was genuinely curious because like I said it was a question I came across myself. I'm more interested in the answer I guess.I've got no idea. The fact that I said it is a pretty powerful question....not THE most powerful question, does in and of itself make your post a moot point. The word THE in this case changes the meaning of the statement quite a bit.
Now. The statement as I posted it is in fact a powerful question. Did I say anything beyond that? Did I say that I agreed with said statement? No.
What I said was it is a pretty powerful question. Which it is. Everyone is free to come up with their own reason why it's powerful. I just said it stuck with me through the years. Personally, I agree with you. It's a question based in fear. It is still a question that most if not all people have asked themselves, regardless of religion (atheist included) at some point in their life, in some form or another.
:hi:
There is no "god," people. You want to believe because you fear death--hence all the nonsense about "heaven." Is there a sillier, more 1st-grade fairy-tale concept in the world? (Yea, maybe--"hell" and..."the devil!" Agggghhh!!) Most of us grew up with this nonsense drilled into our heads. It's comforting irrationality. Some decide that looking at the world rationally is more important and grow out of it. Many cling to it, as it is frightening to think that death ... is...it. Nothing wrong with believing...except when you want to make public policy out of bible stories and, say, teach creationism in school. Filling the heads of young people with anti-scientific craziness. Christians are so scared of secularism that they embrace the venal GOP and voted for Trump--who might be the most immoral man in America save for violent criminals. Oh, the compromises we make....I laugh at christian radio commentators who would regular criticize the ACA--a program that has given 20 million low-income people the opportunity to have health insurance. Horrors! It's not good to mix religion with politics, you look hypocritical. Let's DO move this to another board!
