Butch Jones out to spark a renaissance at Tennessee - SI.com

Good read. But fire Jones and hire Gruden now

It's time to get back to the OP and get away from feeding Oskie's perceived sense of importance.

Ha! Sorry man but if this is what you think about me you r are a very weak man. Thats what you need to concern yourself with not me. God bless :hi:

Like many of us, I've tempered my enthusiasm over the Jones hire, but the more I see and hear of him, the more I like him. He is definitely talking the part. If we can get an upset win or two this year, I could really see some enthusiastic momentum build among the Vol faithful.

I'm skeptical. The guy hasn't done anything yet to prove he can win in the SEC. In fact he lost to Dooley. The Vols go 6-6 his first year.

Yah. I know what you mean. I won't feel better until he beats an SEC team. I would feel better if he was able to do it with Big East talent.

Oh... Wait...

I was trying my best to stay skeptical of this hire, but he's definitely won me over.

You weren't honestly trying very hard, then. He's done nothing.

I love his attitude, but he's really done absolutely nothing to win you over. If a good attitude and some positive energy is all it takes to win the fanbase over immediately, our standards are pretty damn low right now.

I obviously did not read the thread. This has been covered, apparently.

Shame on you for not reading this thread. The sheer volume of intellect that was put into it made it worth reading. Quite possibly the best thread i've read in the last...uh, nevermind. Wrong thread. :)

That's my biggest concern atm. Our standards are so low, any level of success will bring out the high expectations. Then it actually isn't really there, and if it doesn't meet expectations it will start going negative again. Saw it happened last summer, and we all saw how it turned up as the season went along.

But again I'm an idiotic fool with a big head and a high sense of self....

Good read but a big test of will is the ga game. Probably a packed house n he will have lost to fla n ducks n first big home game.

If that game gets out of control n he looks up n second half n a mass exit of fans how does he keep focused n keep team motivated..

He has never watched 100k fans walk out on him.. It will be interesting for sure.[/QUOTES
Honestly What do you hope to accomplish by posting that ****

Coaches are salesmen and I remember feeling optimistic about Dooley, but this is different. I can't quite put my finger on it but something about this guy screams "diamond in the rough".

I don't disagree, and I share the optimism of many here. It is certainly preferable to the lemon suckers.

But, I also know that under Dooley, this program went straight into the crapper. And, it wasn't just the losing. Of course the losing was a big part of it, but some of it was his personality and attitude. He exuded "no confidence" most of the last season. He sucked the life right out of Rocky Top.

CBJ's primary mission outside the lines is to re-energize the fan base and SELL SOME FREAKIN' TICKETS!!!! There's no doubt in my mind that most of this stuff is done directly for this intent, and his ability to do this was considered during the hiring process.

It's about a lot of things, but chief among them is the money.

Would u exude a high level of confidence when the fan base wanted him fired all season, and his boss never came out and tried to simmer down the Gruden with his support?? (ie support like USCs AD gave Kiffin after ucla game, and its no secret the AD doesn't like him)

Btw - the program was in the crapper way before Dooley got here. He was just the first plumber hired to come out and fix it. The job was to big for him to get fix before his shift was done, but he got some of it fixed/cleaned up while here. But he was also able to find all/most of the issues (hopefully), and lay them out for the next guy to take in consideration when its his turn to fix.

Of course all the credit goes to the 2nd guy and that's just the way life is. Anyone that has had a job in sales knows how that is. Ie spending an hour with a lady and her needing to talk to her husband...she does and comes back while u are on lunch and another guy rings her up and gets the credit on his #s. Doesn't mean the first guy was a bad sales guy just couldn't get over some key obstacles to seal it up.

Just imo of course....

I think the majority of us wanted to believe what Dooley was spelling but probably should have been a bit more objective. Butch is a proven winner with with 2 different programs. Dooley was a proven loser with a good last name and mentored by Saban, otherwise he never gets the job.

Please try to explain your point again. Are you really trying to argue Dooley just needed more time? Are you trying to say that the bamboo was just about to sprout? Are you saying if we now succeed under Jones Dooley should get the credit? Just asking!

It's all Gruden's fault that he crapped the bed against inferior teams, quit recruiting and pissed off all the high school coaches in the country?

Great. Our current staff will be hunting down all the Nazis in the bamboo patch that are ruining the team showers.

Did the first salesman call her names and crap in the living room before he went to lunch?

Yes IMHO he needed more time for the things he had started working on to come to fruition or for "the bamboo to grow." Did you understand the analogy? Seriously look into it and really understand it cause if you do u'd realize it wasn't some stupid analogy but very well said. Well said and very appropriate at the time.

IMHO UTs football program is in a significantly better place than when Dooley took it over. If you just look at wins/losses as the bottomline than you IMO aren't looking at it right. Way to many issues needing to be fixed when he got here to think that it can all be fixed at once and that it will all just mesh overnight. Then face the tough stretch of competition those 3 yrs. So Jones' should thank Dooley for what he was handed. Dooley couldn't do that with Kiffin.

Do you have reading comp issues?? Did I blame Gruden or the fans for causing the negativity?? I think I blamed Hart too for not throwing his support behind him as the current coach. I've heard about a few TN coaches so please attach the link for the coaches from all around the country. Then I'll look into it and discuss it with you. But please if it it's less than a handful then please don't bother. Cause there isn't a coach in college that hasn't pissed off some HS coaches. Happens every yr bud.

Great. Our current staff will be hunting down all the Nazis in the bamboo patch that are ruining the team showers.

just because you are incapable of understanding the analogies doesn't mean they have no merit. At this pt I've come to the conclusion that if you say something is stupid it may not be. It may just be you.

Did the first salesman call her names and crap in the living room before he went to lunch?

Again your reading comp, your hatred, temper, whateves made you look stupid to me. Let me tell u something bud...by reading your comments I'm certain mine just go right over your head.

Please for the your own sake...stop responding to me. You r just looking like a fool to me cause you just aren't understanding what I'm saying. I tried to dumb it down with you in mind, but I can't any further. My mind just doesn't sink that low.

. . . Btw - the program was in the crapper way before Dooley got here. . . .

In the 15 full seasons of CPF before the year he went 5-7 and was fired, UT posted double-digit wins nine times with two more nine-win seasons and failed to post eight wins only once.

I have no opinion to share about the CPF firing, but the program was hardly "in the crapper." One down season is nowhere near that.

The Kiffin thing was what it was. But, before his flight, many thought he had things going in the right direction. There was excitement in Big Orange country when he was here.

Yes, there was anger and frustration the year of Fulmer's firing, and yes, the Kiffin thing was a fiasco, but there was still a fire in the belly of Vol fans. If things would have gone differently and the team bounced back under Fulmer, Kiffin or someone else, it would have hardly been viewed as a "rebuilding" effort. It would have been just a bump in the road.

Maybe Dooley has done a great number of things to under gird this program. I certainly hope that is the case, and if so, I am grateful. But, it's my opinion that the apathy, disgust and general bad attitude about the program from the fan base developed, for the most part, under Dooley.

And so, CBJ is trying to find it again, and he seems to have an understanding how to do that.

Hatred and temper? There you go again with the melodrama again.

I won't lose any sleep about what I look like to you. In reading the irrational CDD apologetics that you post, I would have hoped that you would understand my responses, that are usually point-by-point replies, but am not surprised that they don't register.

Since I have dissected some of your posts and responded point-by-point to most of them with rational, logical debates, I can understand why you would like me to stop responding. To help you understand and comprehend my positions in the future, I offer you the following as a show of good will:
