Butch Jones quotes after the game:

I like coach jones and think he will win here but i have to wonder how long it will take him to get the dooley stink off of some of these players?

Of all the ridiculous excuses... this is the worst.

It is almost as stupid as the kids game where boys think a girl's "ugly" can infect them but be passed on to someone else if they "tag" them.

I read the thread title and thought it said " Butch Jones quits after the game". No joke. Weird.

"This loss is on me. I made a big decision. I didn't trust the process and what I had seen throughout the Spring and camp. We had a good football team on the ropes in their house, and we didn't execute the maxims because of decisions I made. Our kids played their guts out, and I let them down."

"Nate is a great talent and an important part of this team. I put him in one of the toughest situations you could put a QB in and it was the wrong decision."

"I'm going to continue to get better. Team 117 is going to continue to get better. We are hurting, but we are going to put the hurt on some teams in the coming weeks....."
I have disagreed with you often... but this is spot on.

I'm just curious....

Going into this season, what did you all THINK our record would be after 4 games? And how is our record, any different than what you expected? In fact, which GAME is any different than we expected?

It's the manner in which we lost those games. I believe in Butch tho. Some of this is on him and the staff, but as you said given our roster this outcome was just about guaranteed. I can't wait for Butch's true body of work to be seen on the field. It'll take time, time I hope he gets.

I'm sure they'll try like heck not to do it anymore while accumulating the battle scars they need to be successful.

Did you not expect this game to end up like this? We beat the spread, and that's doing more than expectations. We still go to a bowl if we win 6 games.

We need athletes with SPEED! Bottom line, you can't win without playmakers and we have none, outside of maybe some freshmen that may become playmakers.

This must be said , Tennessee took another ass whoopn' on national TV. Out played and out coached again. The only thing that will help this team is graduation . :ermm:[/QUOTE

Graduation? What depth do we have coming back next season? Have you seen our roster? Geez..

Dooley 2.0

All talk at this point

(not talking about coaching ability)

Wrong, and a silly comment. Dooley was always blaming others for the problem or the infamous "year 0" comment. Jones is stepping up and taking responsibility. Only time will tell but at this point I feel much better about him that Dooley.

LOL.... the things quoted aren't all that different.

He said "we played"... not "we coached". Pretty subtle way of "throwing the players under the bus". Of course what he leaves unsaid those looking to excuse the staff here will say.

Scars... baby steps... what's the real difference there? I saw no steps of any kind. If UF weren't so incompetent themselves.... this one would have been almost as bad as Oregon.

Yankee Vol is right on this one. We've heard big talk... we have yet to see any big actions.

Many of you claimed that what you wanted to see was a team that didn't lay down and played disciplined football. Well? That's not what we saw today or last week by a very, very long shot.

Sorry to offend you guys and all that. I want to be hopeful. I want to be positive. But I am flat out tired of big talk followed by excuses.

Special teams were much better today.

My only problem with this coaching staff is the offensive game plan. I saw a few bad defensive calls, but that happens when your offense is so inept.

I simply don't see where we were outclassed or out coached today.

I knew we'd lose to Oregon and Fla. I don't think we'll beat UGA or Bama either.

The games I'm hoping for are the rest (included USCe). To me, that is the real UT season. If we win those, I'll consider the season a monumental success. Butch = CoftheY

The defense played great today. I think we would have held them to fewer points if our offense could have actually did something in the first half.

I know a lot of people are blaming the QB's for this and rightfully so. Neither of them are very good at all and to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing Ferguson or Dobbs against South Alabama.

That being said, I am not happy with Raijon Neal or Marlin Lane. The supposed veteran running backs are not showing me any explosiveness at all. I think next week he should experiment a little. Put in one of the young RB's that has shown some speed and ability to see what they can do. In the last 2 games, neither Neal or Lane have shown me a damn thing that makes me think they are SEC caliber backs.

Get over it! This season was always going to be a rebuild. Worley should be the QB as he is the only one that can get the system by the looks of Peterman and there is no need to burn a RS on the freshmen QB. We might as well teach all the Freshman and the RS how to compete and learn the system. I know it is disappointing, but we don't have the talent at the moment. In a couple of years this will be the Tennessee of old competing for the SEC and NC. But right now how many of our defence are walk ons in the depth chart. You can't expect us to win games with walk ons who don't know how to win. These players are used to losing and they were expecting to lose this game. Jones lost this game by keeping Peterman in, but I doubt we still would have won this game with Worley. We don't have "ball players" yet!

Burn the red shirt, the qb for the future is not going to learn from a qb who lacks the skills to be successful at the D 1 level. Heck our upper classman do not know how to win, what do you think they are going to teach the under classmen? Bottom line play and recruit for the future.

Did you not expect this game to end up like this?
Absolutely positively not. This was a VERY beatable UF team that came into the game looking for offensive playmakers. I expected a competent gameplan and for it to be executed at LEAST to the level we saw under Chaney and Wilcox.

And then.... when UF's DB's were dropping like flies, the lost their QB, were largely ineffective at RB.... I expected adjustments to drive a stake right through their wicked hearts.

We beat the spread, and that's doing more than expectations. We still go to a bowl if we win 6 games.

Yeah... that's nice. Jones would have lost to all the teams he was "supposed' to lose to and beaten only the teams he was "supposed" to.... personally... I have had quite enough of coaches who lose to all the good teams and never seem to outcoach anyone.

I am ready for a coach who really is a winner. I hope that's Jones... but UF handed him a golden opportunity today... and he whiffed.

Speed wasn't the problem most of the time today. Disciplined players keep contain and keep their outside leverage. Repeatedly, UT's players got sucked up inside leaving no one to keep contain. That has little to do with speed.

Then why the h*ll have we heard this was such a close competition? Don't tell me how close it is and then say we should trusted what we knew all along.

Yes. You are right about that.

They couldn't keep contain and took WAY too long to adjust to the few things UF's back up QB did well.

I simply don't see where we were outclassed or out coached today.

UF's O has left MUCH to be desired so far this year. Their RB's may not be as good as UT's. Their OL has had some injuries and has guys playing hurt. They then lost their starting QB.

Their LB's are not what they've been in the past. Their DL is good but they constantly confounded UT's O with simple stunts that should have left big play opportunities if the right plays were called. They were playing their 3rd string CB's by the end of the game.

They had enough weaknesses for Jones to win this game if he had outcoached Muschamp. UF exploited UT's weaknesses... UT did not exploit UF's. That... is coaching.

Jones hoped Peterman would be a gamer... he wasn't. Just a failed experiment. The biggest problem is the plug should have been pulled earlier.

In retrospect, it also seems to have been a pretty foolish decision to give a RS Fr his first start at UF.

You mean the other QB everyone wanted in place of that sad excuse for a QB named Worley.....And the two true freshmen would have done ever worse.

Speak for yourself and the rest of the loud crowd who always thinks the second string QB is so much better. Some of us never said those things and never tried to undermine Worley.

I would ask all the impatient ones calling for "RESULTS NOW, DAMMEET" to take a deep breath. CBJ suggested Sunday practices would happen, when he made the following statement at the time of his hiring: "[The SEC] is the most competitive football conference in the country, and any day off as a player [or] as a coach you take, you're allowing your opponent to win. I think it's establishing the culture, the standard, the expectations -- and we're not going to shy away from it. We are Tennessee, and that's the motto that we have."

Remember, as Phil Fulmer alluded to, and reported in AL.com a month ago, Mike Hamilton screwed us like Bob Bockrath (and Andrew Sorensen) screwed Alabama in the late 1990's hiring Dumbose, Price, Francione, Shula, etc. Bama was down for 10 friggin years. We've been down for FIVE!!! GIVE BUTCH JONES A <BLEEP> <BLEEP> CHANCE!
