if there was silence and we have to wait til the proving on the field bit, we'd be scratching ourselves to calluses

So he gets credit for beating Vandy, but a pass for getting destroyed by Dooley??

pick one. Its one way or the other.

Not really. Cincinnati was clearly out-talented against UT. The same couldn't be said for the Vandy/Cincinnati game. The fact UT won in overtime against Vandy only strengthens the fact that the coaching during Dooley's regime was terrible. The rosters of talent weren't even comparable.

While I do believe we should wait to see what the product is like, there is no reason to bash a coach who hasn't coached the Vols yet. Also, what Dooley said and did is Dooley. These are different people and we should treat Butch as a new coach, fresh slate, because he is.

I'm excited to see what he can do and I think he brings great optimism and a positive attitude to this team. But most of all we need leadership and discipline. I hope to see that too.

This is his big recruiting year and we need a top five class. If he gets it then I'll say were on the way back he has a winning system but in the SEC you must have players and lots of them.

Wylo, don't act like he was coaching Florida's talent when he got beat by Dooley. He got beat by Dooley because the talent difference allowed it. Also keep in mind that after we beat Cincy, they went on to a 10-2 record with a Big East title. How did we end the season? With a 5-7 record and a loss to KY.

If you're going to spew garbage, at least bring all the facts to the conversation.

EDIT* 10-3 record and shared a conf. title

Different mindset from Dooley imo.

And ftr, I liked Dooley. He just wasn't able to get it done.

Agreed. I liked Dooley as well, but Butch talks the talk and then backs it up with with a relentless dedication and motivation that Dooley never showed. It just feels like Butch never takes a minute to rest. But he still needs to prove it on the field of course.

If BJ was out here saying nothing or talking about how Tn will struggle this year, he would still be getting bashed. He is damned if he do or damned if he don't.
Dooley just made up excuses as he went along. He never talked a good talk. He was a fraud from day one and smart enough to fool his followers all the way to his firing and I'm sure there still some followers who are butt hurt because he isn't here now.
Either get behind BJ or find another team. It's pretty simple. He wasnt my top choice but the man is busting his azz and is great full to be the coach at UT. He has showed more passion for UT in 2 months than Dooley did in 3 years.Give the man a chance

Did kiffin and dooley not say the same thing??? Seriously talk is cheap. Just get the job done and let it speak for itself. I don't understand why people need to get all fluffed up by talk that is a given. What else is he suppose to say?!?!?

If you can't see the huge differences in the beginnings of the tenures of Kiffin, Dooley and Butch Jones then you really aren't paying attention to the details. For the first time since Fulmer we have a real and proven football coach.

Dooley's dialogue prepared you for the worst (which sadly came to pass.)

Jones is the polar opposite. And whether he actually expects to win or not, he sure does want that to be the expectation.

Again, I like it.

So all this comparing Jones to Dooley and Kiffin, what Kiffin said and what Dooley said and how everybody believed in their hype and supported them. Well I supported them most of the way to because that's what you do, but I can't say I ever believed in what they were saying or their ability to coach. When I first heard Kiffin was the hire I was like "who?" Then I read what Al Davis and some others said about him and his record as head coach was not very good, that made me think it was not going to be good. I never bought into his hype because of what I had read about him. Kiffin is a fraud, always has been, always will be. Then came Dooley. He had a losing record at some school I can't even remember and we hired him. WTF? I never believed in him and never liked him. Look at Butch Jones in the past. You will see he's a winner. Yeah, he's "talking the talk". Why do I believe him? Because he has walked the walk. He's a winner. He has done more to improve the situation at UT in the last 5 weeks than the other two bozo's did put together. I'm all in!

I will support our Coach until he gives me a good reason not to. He has not done anything but come in and work hard and try to get people excited about Tennessee Football! A good football team has to have a winning mentality. I think CBJ is doing a fantastic job at laying that foundation! Go Butch, and GO VOLS!

While I would agree that talk is cheap its very funny the way we say "What else is he suppose to say?'' then when he says what he should be thinking that his staff is the best in the country, we STONE him to death and even have one media person say "We gonna make him keep it real and challenge him on that"...I agree with you but on his staff...What else is he suppose to say? My staff is weak and not very good but I'll do better later!!!! As I said, Funny..

You guys are right. I wish our coach was invisible to the media and fan base until it was game day. No point in trying to put out this tire fire of emotions

You can't wait til august to motivate fans, boosters and players.

Butch needs believers, he needs buy in. But most importantly, he needs to set the bar of expectations high for the recruits and players. Hey you don't set a goal of second or third in the SEC East. You set the goal of being the best on the field!

Beyond that we need to fill the stadium and coffers. We should benchmark Cowboys stadium with those huge screens. That should be another goal that will help bring in top tier talent.

What kind of mindset r u reffering too?? I know u liked him but what makes u think anyone could have gotten anything done in such a short period of time? Not only was there a bunch of drama in the AD, he had 3 yrs of the toughest strech of football someone can go through. Its like telling someone they couldn't preform well at there job of being a Tent Puter Up Guy when his first gig was in the middle of a hurricane or tornado.
