Butch Jones "Vows to bring the Vols back"

IMO, Dooley was too realistic with the whole "Year 0" talk. While we all understood this was true, the players needed someone who believed in them. In hindsight, I'm not certain he ever believed in them and it showed on Saturdays.

Butch is just different. The talk sounds different. We need a can-do attitude on the hill and he's got it. He's a football version of Bruce Pearl.

Jones' attitude is infectious. if he can field a decent team, he may be on to big things at UT. he fought for this job. i think he will expect no less from the players he coaches.

I spoke with two fellow Tennessee fans at the Sports Barn Gym in Chattanooga tonight, and we all three are supporting Coach Jones and believe that he can get it done, if he is given the time. It took Coach Majors a little over 10 years to get it turned around at UT, and this will now be the 5th season since Coach Fulmer was fired. I know most people are impatient and I can be also, but we need to remember that it may very well be another 5 years to get completely back to being competitive and challenging the rest of the league for the SEC Championship.

Also, if Coach Jones and his staff are incapable of turning it around we will be like LSU was from the early 1980's until Saban got there in the early 2000's, mediocore. I know because I'm 46 and remember it very well, so I'm glad to see he believes in himself and what he intends to do for the program, and here is hoping that he is very successful!

Go Vols!

if Jones gets 5 years, then he will either have had a 10 win season or a SECCG appearance, imo.

More than anything, UT's resurgence will probably coincide with South Carolina and Georgia declining. I don't see them continuing their success after Spurrier and Richt retire.

If he wasn't out pushing the brand, somebody would whine about it.

He wasn't pushing the brand to the recruits effectively or he would not have finished behind Vandy for the first time in school history. That's what the whining is about and it's perfectly justified. He will have his chance to make up for that blunder on the field but until then whining will continue so he would be best advised to shut up and go to work (and I don't mean twitter).

I think we do have a coach who finally gets it. Dooley was a disaster and should never have been hired. Jones does talk and speaks in coherent sentences. He knows what needs to be done and is getting busy. One can tell he isn't out of his depth like Dooley. I watched the Mississippi State game and was so embarrassed by the way that whole staff acted I would have fired everyone of them after that game. The Dooley Staff had no class or credibility. Jones and his staff have plenty of both.

Butch doesn't need you to tell him how to do his job.

Richt is the Skinny Fulmer, do more with less. Heck, we almost beat them last fall with Dolittle at the helm!

He finished behind vandy bc kids want to go to a winning program. (See vandy 2012 record) nothing to do with butch jones lack of effort or coaching. He had 31 days to make 1-2 year relationships. (See impossible in websters).

Any other retarded comments ill be happy to filter for the rest of the Internet.

Other than that, lets wait and judge CBJ after he's coached some games.

Precious, You really don't have a clue do you ?

Just the opposite - he seems in desperate need of advice (by this forum and others) - as much as any coach we have ever had here given that his bearcat staff got taken to school by Dooley and that they got beat by Vandy in recruiting.

:nono: WRONG. Auburn finished ahead of Vandy - I guess their new staff did not get the memo to look up impossible in websters :)

Never mind the fact that the same team that lost to Dooley beat Franklin in the bowl game. Look, you can spin it any way you want, but what's the problem with getting behind this coach until he proves otherwise? He's said and done all the right things so far and salvaged a good recruiting class. 10th in the SEC isn't all that bad when you're 20th in the country. Coaching can be more than enough to make up the difference between #20 and #1.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that they won a NC 2 years ago and are closer to the top than Vandy or UT.

I was against hiring this staff but am now behind them 100% (as would be the case with any other coach we hire). But I don't accept spinning 10th in SEC as recruiting success (ever - I don't care if SEC is ranked 1-10 in the country - for a program with out tradition it should never be acceptible to finish behind Vandy, Ole Miss, USCjr, or god forbit UK - fans should resist any new staff coming in and lowering expectations like this).

I don't know if everyone got a lot of feedback from Thursday's post signing day celebration, but in Nashville the impression he left with fans was beyond strong.

It was great to watch him talking to fans at the Downtown Hilton, and privately he was reiterating that we will be back on top sooner than later. People, we have a coach who gets it. Butch Jones will not stop until he has us contending for national championships.

alot of talk so far, very little results.

every new coach says that!

I guess Coach Jones has not learned you can be positive and say things good about the team and it be on volnation. He has to know he should have things done in 31 days that other coaches have done in years while at UT. The staff should have improved the 40th ranked class when they took over like Auburn did the 10the ranked class when Malzahn took over.

When we fired Dooley, I thought all along it would be a success if we were to make it back to the top 25 in the rankings. While we didn't finish as high as any of us would've liked, "salvage" is the word. I'll agree with you that we cannot accept to be 10th in the SEC year-in year-out. Given the circumstances, Butch has done an exceptional job.

Wylo, don't act like he was coaching Florida's talent when he got beat by Dooley. He got beat by Dooley because the talent difference allowed it. Also keep in mind that after we beat Cincy, they went on to a 10-2 record with a Big East title. How did we end the season? With a 5-7 record and a loss to KY.

If you're going to spew garbage, at least bring all the facts to the conversation.

EDIT* 10-3 record and shared a conf. title

More facts:

CDD beat Cinci with a roster of studs, before Bray and Hunter injuries. That UT team could have ran the score up on most SEC teams that year.

Most of the talk and quotes come down to if the players will play for him, they are the ones that count...and it seems that they like what they see...so yeah...I back CDD as our coach and I am backing CBJ as our new coach...thats how I do it....Go Vols
