Butch says "Kickoffs to be eliminated"

I understand safety but why not make equipment better instead of eliminating part of the game... I mean they haven't changed the speed limit n most people die when the hit head on .... what did they do?? They made cars safer because they know wrecks r going to happen..

This what's wrong with America dream to play in the NFL in the most violent sport but then sue them when u find out its dangerous ... what when they played high school n pee wee.. how do we know those hits r not causing it..

Americans r fat lazy n want to make the next generation of men like women... take our guns n now take our football...geez
this is just another way to water it down so they can try n get women on the field....lol

I feel better now..

Our lust for blood should never outweigh the safety and longevity of the players on the field. If giving up kickoffs saves players from a broken neck, chronic concussion syndrome, or early onset dementia, then we must put aside personal desire for catharsis and do what is best for them.

They're not animals bred for our pleasure, they're human beings. Maybe we should treat them as such.

let's eliminate tackling while we're at it.

So every concussion related hit in the history of football happened on kickoffs? With respect to players that have been badly injured, this is nothing more than the NFL trying to stop future lawsuits and protect their bank account not the players.

I really hope that doesn't happen. Football is a violent sport. Its not for sissy boys. The big wigs in the NCAA are gonna ruin this great sport

Airade?

That must have been the coverage we ran last year. The one where you aid the other team in moving the ball through the air.

I heard they were going to allow kick-offs to continue but would be limited to two-hand touch. Problem solved.

It has nothing to do with the game. It has to do with legal liability and CYA down the road when lawsuits go before juries. Kickoffs are the most dangerous plays in the game. It's hard to argue that you've done everything possible to keep players safe if you haven't eliminated them.

I doubt anybody's happy about it, but it's circle the wagons time.

Kickoffs have always been one of the most exciting parts of the game. I'm pretty sure no one puts a gun to these guys heads to play, they know the risks going in, especially now. Players want all the benefits ($$$) of the sport but won't accept responsiblity when things go wrong. Football is what it is. It's a contact sport and the physicality is what's made it so popular. If you're a player and concerned about that the health risks, don't play the dam game!

Also, haven't heard many complaints or lawsuits in the motorsports community. Isn't the risk even greater there?

Not as much $ for the lawyers to make in motorsports. Lawyers flock to $ like maggots to dead meat.

Five people actually liked this? Its football, players know its a violent sport and know what they're getting into. They're not being misled. I would tell you to just take up sewing or knitting but you may prick yourself and see blood.

After kick offs are eliminated, then what is the next most dangerous play, and then the next, and then the next.....and then you're left with playing the games through machines instead of actual people because every play was deemed to be too dangerous. Of course, that scenario is a little overboard, but this is a slippery slope to start down.

What's next? Will they were pillows around their head because the NCAA will be liable because by wearing helmets they didn't do everything possible....theyve been playing the game their whole life...they know what they signed up for...the answer is not taking away one of the most important facets and momentum changers of the game
