Buy out the Oregon game now!

Play the game..one thing that did bug me during the Dooley era was buying out those games...chicken sheet if you ask me. Just play it like a man..Johnny Majors never told Pitt or Notre Dame or USC or UCLA that we weren't good enough to play them..

Chip Kelly may not even be around at Oregon next year, so what exactly is the point of this thread OP? Lost ALL faith in our Vols have ya? Bury your head in the sand, I think we'll be fine and I see 8 WINS when I look at our schedule next year.

Play the game. The Vols either take their lumps or shock the world, either way I'll have my orange on.

We already have 3 possibly 4 cupcakes next year no need to drop the ducks and pick up a 5th that would be some dooley sheat we have moved on from that play the game!

It looks like 100k strong at the spring game would be a great start..Alabama had about 92k at Nicks first game.
And it fired that fan base up ,and it was on ESPN..Think that would jump start this program and let everyone were back and fired up...

How does it help us to go get smacked by 45+ plus in Eugene?

If we did not hire a coach who plans on going there and winning regardless of the odds, then we hired the wrong guy.

One of the things that I loved about Bruce Pearl was that mindset. His teams bought into it (usually) and we exploded as a result. I would rather go 1-10 and play real games. No more Buffaloafing.

If you go tell your football team, "hey guys we cancelled the Oregon game because you were probably going to get beat by 40" than how can you expect them to have any confidence that they will win any meaningful games. Loser/defeatist attitude equates to losing.

That says it all.

Why not just take away all the cleats and replace them with ballet slippers while we're at it.

We are attempting to turn the program around. We need bowl games, wins and quality recruits, not embarrassments on national television, losing seasons, and no bowl games.

Seems like I remember being beaten once by Memphis, and by Wyoming.

Wouldn't it be interesting if my Volunteers pulled some magic out of no where and won the game?

Win or Lose I will still be cheering for my Vols even though my wife is and Oregon fan.

I won't be making any bets with her on that game though.

Oregon is 45-7 under Chip Kelly and will be returning their stud QB who accounted for over 3,000 yards and 35 TD's.

Tennessee is be returning one of the worst defenses in school history and an offense replacing the teams 3 best players.

I would love to see us shock the world, but fans are delusional if they think this will be anything but a blowout. It will only serve to hurt the efforts to rebuild this program.

Next year is going to be a hard road even without playing the Ducks. Better to sack up and play the game than look like we are scared of another team...again.

anyone think CBJ's knowledge of the spread helps us here? I know his offense is different. But if you run the spread and know the in's and out's of this style of offense, theoretically speaking shouldn't you know how to slow it down?

I understand that knowing how to stop someone and actually being able to do it are two different things. Looking at the AU-Ore nat'l title game... the two offenses barely combined for 40 total points. Could familiarity with the spread have been the reason for this?

I don't expect or anticipate a win, hence the statement I won't be making any bets with the wife on the game.

BUT I would still love to see some magic. Win or Lose I believe in my VOLS and I have seen some pretty major upsets I am not saying it is likely, BUT it is possible.

I know you are basing your argument on fact and I respect that. Your argument has a lot more merrit to it than mine does, because my argument is soley based on emotion as a fan I want to believe in my Vols. The same way many people want to win the powerball everyone knows the odds are unlikely, but if you want to win you have got to play and sooner or later someone always pulls of the upset.

But you can bet your bottom dollar I willl be pulling for the upset. No More Deafetist attitude or excuses play the game and Win or NO come home head held high.

Jeopardizing a bowl berth for sake of "sacking up" is flat out dumb.

"Sacking up" doesn't help us turn this program around, it does the opposite.

A bowl isn't a sure thing even with buying out the ducks. And doing so makes the program look bad to potential recruits. Keeping the game is a potential win/win, even if its a long shot. Chickening out is a potential lose/lose. I agreed with Dooley backing out of the UNC game. That came back to bite the team in the end. If you want the players to buy into the new coach you have to show that you have faith in them. Even if it does result in a loss.

Finally someone who sees the bigger picture and isnt looking through his orange shades.

And to the fans expecting CBJ to give them 8 wins next season...

We need to play the game. If we get smacked around at least we will have some national exposure going into the game and it also shows we will play anywhere. I always liked the home and home with Pac-10/12 schools (moreso when we won them). I am predicting 7-5 next year.

If I'm a high school kid, and I see a school backing out of another game against a big conference opponent, I'm not going to look at that school anymore. That tells me the coaches don't have faith in their or their players' ability to win.

The negative sh*tstorm of buying out the premier nonconference game of next season would vastly outweigh the benefits of avoiding a blowout.

This thread is stupid.

Every school buys games out. I'm not suggesting we do so, but we are by no means the only school that has bought a game out before. Never did understand why the UNC buyout brought about so much publicity.
