Buy out the Oregon game now!

Now i know you're about to say "Were Tennessee we dont back down! We will play anybody!"

But lets be honest Were not winning a championship next year, It will be an auto loss, Next years goal needs to be to get to a bowl game.

And with this schedule, Were not guaranteed to win 5 games.

Auburn will be alot better under Malzahn.

Missour will be better.

Vandy will be good (Despite what alot of UT fans wanna think)

Hell Western Kentucky is not a 100% win IMO

Theres a CHANCE we lose 8 games for the first time EVER.

Call me what you want but for the best interest in this program we need to buy out this game.

You mean like when we backed out of playing North Carolina a couple years ago?

Yes. And then beat them in the Bowl game (minus the ref-ing debacle that changed a college football rule.)

Go play the game, and bring home CBJ's first signature win. That's the only attitude to have concerning this matter.

Getting embarrassed on National Television moves us closer to being Kentucky and farther away from the likes of Alabama.

We gotta get our house in order first.

And backing out less than a year before the game makes us look good?

-10/10 troll. Try harder next time.

It's not a troll. Getting a 50 point ass kicking on national television looks a LOT worse and will hurt more on the recruiting trail then a couple of days of bad press in the middle of spring.

Simply put, do you want to see this program take longer to turn around? Because your attitude on this game says you do.

I love how everyone has given up on this game already. Yeah, no teams ever pull off upsets in college football, didn't happen any this year, right? Hell, if our team went in to this game thinking the way some are posting on here, we might as well not have a 2013 season at all.

Buying out of the game will only send a message to the team that we are scared! If you want to talk about winning championships then you have to a confident team. I for one would rather buck up and fight like hell just to get my as* whooped then turn tail and not even give it a shot. I think buying out of the NC game was one Dooleys biggest mistakes. It showed his team that he didn't have the confidence they could win. I say play the game, play hard, and maybe just maybe we will surprise some people.

just the way Hamilton and Dooley were dragged through the streets in 10 for buying out the 11 UNC game.

Some of you people are the most pathetic excuses for fans I could imagine.

Does anyone remember we are Broke compared to all the other programs in the SEC?
With 1.5 million in the bank and cost us 1/3 to buy out the game and more to schedule another weak team, this does not make a good business decision

I never want to live the days again where people laugh at us over cancelling a game
We set it..we play it..win or lose

Spending all of the millions we raised from 2003-2010
to refurbish the stadium got us a coaching fiasco and a half done stadium.

Exactly, and buying out that NC game was bad cause the team deserved a shot at redemption for that rip off ending to Dooley's only bowl game. Least we have the Dooley rule in college to stop that from happening again.

Sounds like Kelly may be NFL bound and if he is that could be a huge statement for us...he makes that offense go, if we can go in get the win...could be the huge win we need to start CBJ's tenure out to be special!

You are absolutely right. The problem is that the money is spent. The resources given back to Athletics before the coach announcement have not been realized yet

Programs like Alabama are spending millions on the Coach still have over 50 million in the bank as does Georgia and LSU etc etc
We have less money in the bank than Kentucky
We have less money in the bank than Tennesse Tech and Georgia Southern

We are running in the RED and will be for awhile due to Coaches and Administrators decision but Hey we have more sky boxes (less actual seats) We have some beautiful buildings where are 2-3 * recruits can practice

The problems that this Coach face are overwhelming
I would NOT want his job!

Has anyone made the "We can do the same thing that Stanford did this year" argument? I know we're not Stanford-quality right now, but with the O-line we have returning, what would stop us from running the ball on them and grinding the clock out? We almost doubled our run production from last season to this year. We are losing Dallas Thomas, but JJ and ZF deciding to stay could be huge for us this next year. Especially against this Oregon team.

Now, Oregon can put points on the board...no doubt about that. But if we can run the ball consistently on them and keep that clock running, we should be able to keep it close, IMO. Will we win the game? Highly doubtful. But I don't think it's going to be a 50 point blowout like some are thinking.

We are attempting to turn the program around. We need bowl games, wins and quality recruits, not embarrassments on national television, losing seasons, and no bowl games.

We sucked when the schedule was made. If we lose we asked for it. Where do you think they keep the UT money tree for all these buyouts etc?

Maybe you should lobby for us to move to the ACC or conf USA.

This GIRL is calling you a sissy. So, should we buy out all the tough games on our schedule? Maybe schedule nothing but lower tier, DII schools? Heck, if we did that enough, we could have an undefeated season. Would that make you happy?

Delete this thread now! Last time we bought out a game it was embarassing. Play the game and compete. We have nothing to lose so if we do win all the sweeter!

This game is when we, as a program, will turn it around. I hope.

But seriously, the boys signed up to compete. Let them do it. However, it does make me extremely nervous that we have to travel to Oregon and then Florida the next week. That schedule does not bode well.

For the same 2009-2012 period Rivals average ranking of UTs classes was 12. Only the Alabama and Florida averages are significantly better. Oregon, Georgia, SC, Auburn are within the margin of error of any recruiting service. The remaining teams are significantly less talanted. My point is that UT is in the ballpark in talent with most teams on the schedule. The days of buying out opponents are over. Let's give these new guys a chance to coach em up and see what happens. They may not have it all together for Oregon or Florida but I suspect by the time Georiga and SC come to town we'll see a different product on the field.

Buying out a game 2-3 years out is completely different that buying out a game in this coming year. It is all but certain that if UT bought out Oregon at this point, we'd get ran through the PR ringer pretty good. It would be generally embarrassing as well as particularly embarrassing for the new coach. Despite the reality, the perception would be that it is his idea, and he's a wuss.

If a loss at OU really turns out to be the difference in making a bowl, then you are talking about not making a pretty low-ranked bowl. I agree that the extra practice associated with bowls and the additional exposure does aid the program, but it's difficult for me to believe the missing a chance to play in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl is a greater tragedy than the black eye from backing down from the big boys.

Is much is easier to recover from an a$$-whoopin' than it is to recover from being labeled a coward.

That's my opinion. You are certainly welcome to yours.

Besides, we can't afford it.

absolutely not, I want to see how they stack up. The Western game aganst Petrino will tell me all I want to know. Beat petrino soundly then just play fun football aganst Oregon and see what happens. I'm use to Gator and Bama bashing. What's the differance with Oregon.
