'18 CA QB JT Shrout (UT signee)

So from a scouting standpoint what do you think of him?

Let me help you out. . .

First, let me preface this by saying I think the kid will stick with Cal due to timing and distance. I hope I’m wrong however.

I’ve done a lot of scouting and recruiting at different levels and after watching his film a few times I see why the NFL guys said what they did. This kid is a steal and will light it up wherever he goes. Now I’m not saying he is this guy because I know the flame squad will be in immediately. But he does possess a lot of the qualities of a Farve. He’s got that gunslinger mentality, a strong arm but good accuracy and touch, and he throws on the run very well. Also a good athlete. You can tell he’s a fierce competitor and leader as well. So if he were to choose TN, I would be more than happy. I think he will be one of the top QBs in the class when all is said and done

No one cares that you're a "coach". Give it a rest. No one cares.

I literally just asked what he thought about the kid... I value someone that knows what he is looking at rather than someone who doesn't.... I'm not going to ask a car salesman to work on my car...

P.S. Thanks for your valuable input... :hi:

Stop parading yourself around like you're a real coach. You're not one. Stop pretending.

Your problem is that you think you know everything while us non-coaches know nothing. Proving you wrong doesn't slow your roll either.

I'm not trying to come off that way...
But I don't know where the "proving me wrong doesn't slow me down either" thing is coming from?

I am a DB coach... Smh...

Pee Wee or Midgets don’t count. I know coaches even up to the high school level that 30% of the knowledgeable fan base know more than them about Xs and Os. So regardless, no one cares if you coach. No one cares about your scouting reports. You’re on a message board. That’s all that needs to be said.

I apologize for being rude... But I do know football... And just as much as you guys don't care... Thee is no reason to be a dic$ to me about it...
I think that that is fair.

I think Shrout is a decent 3* QB recruit, that certainly has untapped potential(98% of 3* QB recruits do tho). But I still just don't understand the decision to tell Penix that he probly won't fit in to the new staff's gameplan. Penix looked just as good - IF NOT BETTER - on his scouting tape than JT Shrout does. Penix may possibly be the 1 of the 2 that develops into the better SEC QB. So why push him out, just to go chase and hope to flip another 3* QB recruit? I'm not an SEC coach, so I assume Jeremy Pruitt and Tyson Helton surely know better than me........but it just seems like a pointless hassle, when we ALREADY HAD A GOOD QB PROSPECT FIRMLY COMMITTED! Craziness. I woulda been perfectly happy keeping Penix. And then swing for the fences the rest of the recruiting periods and go after a high 4* and try to flip one to be "the guy", and Penix coulda ended up as solid depth regardless. Shrout looks decent in his film. Even tho, I really don't like the TD to INT ration in his small sample size. Those aren't good numbers on the INTS no matter where you're at. I'm sure he's a decent QB that Helton can get production out of. But why turn away Penix just to chase? Oh well. I'm sure this staff will lock up at least 1 decent QB recruit. Guarantano still has a few yrs to run the show tho, so the new staff has time. No rush. They have this class AND next class to land the heir to Guarantano. UT has always been in the conversation for a "Top QB" every recruiting cycle since i can remember. The last few yrs have been subpar, but I truly believe that UT and the tradition itself is good enuf to pull in atleast 1 solid QB each class. Always going to get a kid that wants the shot to take over and be the starting QB for the Tennessee Vols. So hopefully Helton and Pruitt start pulling a true stud QB every couple of yrs. We are going in the right direction to get back to that point again. We're not too far gone from those good days. They're comin back soon. I've got faith.
