Transferring makes no since at this point for QD, unless he wants to play at a lower level TOM BRADY did not play a Michigan. Starting or Back up, all he has to do is blow it away at the NFL PRO DAY and Combine.
So do you think we come back and win the GT game with JG as the QB?
No way to tell with how our defense was playing. Obviously you dont. I would rather have put him in and let him take his lumps that game though.

After the progress of the program in '15 and '16, several disappointing losses and Butch already being on the hot seat you would think he would play the QB he thought gave us the best chance to win immediately. There was no way that our administration and fanbase were going to accept a terrible season just so JG could get experience and he really didn't progress much when he did get playing time...although the OL play and play calling definitely didn't help.
I think that Butch knew that JG was nowhere close to ready and didn't plan to give him any significant playing time until either Dormady graduated or JG improved and won the job.
JG might be the least effective QB I've ever seen play significant minutes at UT. I really hope that he and the rest of the team improve with better coaching, a healthy roster and an infusion of talent in the trenches but I think that QD starts next year and JG gets recruited over for 2019.
Shrout will play circles around Pennix imo. Sorry, just don't see how you see that they are even close.
After the staff letting Penix go, I don't see how Guarantano fits in either. He is far from a pro style QB. Hopefully its Mcbride or Dormady next year.
Whats the most intriguing decision to come over the next few days? With all the tumult at Tennessee, including losing two quarterbacks for this signing class, the stakes are high surrounding the recruitment of sleeper quarterback JT Shrout. His father, Jim Shrout, told Yahoo Sports on Monday that his son will be choosing between Tennessee and California this week. (Shrout visited Tennessee this weekend after being a Cal commit since June.)
Shrout was at the QB Collective Camp this summer and his technical proficiency and throwing motion wowed the NFL coaches in attendance. What made Shrout most intriguing, however, was that hed accepted a scholarship to California without playing a full high school game. (Hed started one game as a sophomore and got hurt.)
Shrout didnt quarterback shop high schools, instead waiting until his senior year to start at Hart High School in Newhall, California. He threw for more than 3,000 yards and finished with 27 touchdown passes and 25 interceptions this season. His unique story and strong play caught the attention of former USC quarterback coach Tyson Helton, who is Tennessees new offensive coordinator.
Jim Shrout said his son had an outstanding visit to Tennessee and would make a decision at some point this week, likely either Wednesday or Thursday. Jim Shrout said his son has two great choices in front of him. He said hes told JT: Let all the emotions calm down and make a rational decision, Jim Shrout said. Lets get away from it for a day or two and let everything settle down and go over it.
Are you serious? Ha. All I'll say is "check the stats". Cause Penix started the last 2 Seasons of high school, and both years he had more TD passes than Shrout threw. And in both seasons Penix started COMBINED - HE THREW 6 PICKS!!! In 2 seasons.....6. And........SHROUT THREW 24 PICKS JUST THIS SEASON ALONE! Lol. Penix was a solid option. That's all I'm saying. So yes, they "are even close".....and Penix may even slightly have better skills in certain areas. I'm no expert tho. I just go by the numbers. And don't get me wrong, Shrout may turn out to be a true stud in the longrun. But it still makes no sense to me, that you chase away Penix.....just to go chase around another recruit on the same level talent-wise, that's already committed to another school! May work out hopefully, but I think we shoulda kept Penix too. His numbers last season were 30TDs/1pick, and his numbers this season are 31TDs/5picks. 61TDs/6picks over the last 2 seasons........and Shrout only started 1 season in high school due to injury, but his numbers were 27TDs/24picks! The "logic" just ain't clicking on this "attempted swapout". We already sold TN on him and his fam, and had him locked in, committed pretty firmly to us. Even with 4* Adrian Martinez committed to us too, Penix still held strong to be a Vol. He knew he had a shot to battle Martinez and win the job in a yr or 2. So we shoulda kept him, and just pushed for another 4* QB recruit to take Martinez's spot. But....it is what it is. Hopefully we land a decent QB to be next in line behind JG.
It's crazy, cause Penix isn't even a Dual-Threat QB, he's a Pro-Style prospect. So I would think that Penix's style of play would actually have fitted in good with this new staff and style of play. JG has talent, but Butch didn't alter the Offense to his strengths. So hopefully Pruitt understands that he's gotta bend the Offense a little towards whatever works for JGs strengths. Cause JG is very talented. Just gotta cut him loose and let him thrive.
