It's a shame it took the suspension of 4 key players for him to get a team to play together but I'll give credit where credit is due, these last two games have been exceptional. The only blunder I saw tonight was having Chism in right before the half where he collected another foul but other than that he coached an outstanding game especially with what he has left. Hopefully this team can maintain the chemistry when we get some of these guys back because we need those guys to have an chance come tournament time when we are playing every day. Everyone put everything on the floor tonight and I was very happy for them. Lets hope this can continue and they can keep the fire because if they lose that fire they lose any chance because they aren't going to get by just by showing up like we did the first half of the season.

Absolutely. We'll find out a lot about Pearl the coach as we head into the SEC season. Does Tennessee build on this? Or do we turn around lose to Auburn on Thursday?

The solution is simple, and this is what makes this team so frustrating. WE NEED TO NOT SHOOT SO MANY THREES! Look at what they did tonight when they drove to the basket and executed well on offense!!

Yet, it seems every 3rd game, they become extremely lazy and refuse to execute their offense. And instead, just play catch on the perimeter, then chuck up a 3 with 2 seconds left on the shot clock.

Let's hope this team has finally realized that needs to stop. Why hasn't Bruce been able to enforce this?

Sorry to have a negative thread on such a great day. It's just so frustrating to watch sometimes! With that out of my system, I must congratulate the Vols on one of the best wins under Pearl! Todays was a perfect example of what they need to do to be successful: play great defense, and DRIVE TO THE HOOP! Way to go, walk-ons!

they shoot that many 3's cuz they aren't disciplined. why aren't they disciplined?

jacking up 3's is lazy basketball.

but when they go in... you look awesome. and people think your coach out-coached the other guy.

Lyls I'm with you, he played aggessive FINALLY, I felt like he let out months of holding back tonight, esp on that baseline dunk on at least 2 I think 3 defenders. And I was impressed with Mazes ability to finish as well. He had 2 or 3 really nice finishes around the rim. Does anyone else wanna give ole Steven a little love? Some hustle plays for lil Bruce. LOL nonetheless, GO VOLS

Haha, my thing is(switching topics) He gets the heat when they aren't focused and don't show discipline, yet when they do, its the "walk ons" and players who deserve the credit. Can we all agree that Pearl is responsible for they're motivation level on a given night? Yes, so he deserves credit for having a gameplan to keep us in the game, and HAVInG THE TEAM READY to PLAY? Those are KEY ingredients to being an top tier coach!

I thought we would give great effort today, but honestly didn't think we would win. I thought the key to the win was Bobby Maze. We finally saw him play like a D1 point guard and it showed. Congrats to the entire staff and players, and a special congrats to player of the game B. Maze.

I like Pearl, and I support him as coach, but sometimes his coaching is inconsistent. Why haven't we seen improvement on FT shooting? Why does Prince still try to showboat at times? These are things Pearl, as coach, NEEDS to fix. I like what I saw from the team today. They pulled together and fought their rears off, but that effort should be seen in every game. Players will have good games and bad games, but the effort should ALWAYS be there.

That said, why do we as a fan base feel the need to tear each other down? If you love Pearl, don't read the threads of those you call haters. If you hate Pearl, don't read the threads of those you call sheep. Personally, I see points on both sides of the argument. Honestly, I think all parties just want what THEY think is best for the program. Differences of opinion happen. This in-fighting is just plain silly.

I think this win is actually an example of why Pearl will never be an elite coach, only a sweet sixteen coach. He can always get the walk-ons and alley cats to play above their ability, but can never seem to get the all-stars to play with consistency or up to their potential.

You know, looking at all of your posts after the game, for the life of me I can't tell if you're happy they won.

I don't think that makes you a good or a bad fan, a fan is what you make it. But if you are a fan, I would assume that you at least are pleased they won?

We don't win this game pressing and running and gunning. That was the point of a lot of the criticism. If anything, the result of the game from the way we played only supports what the critics were saying: valuing possessions is the key to beating the elite teams.

Bruce let 'em play. A stable of young thoroughbreds was let loose on a Kansas team which knew they were beat from the opening three-point shot by Chism. Great individual play. Three threes by Woolridge in a row and a game-sealing three by McBee with the shot clock running out. Maze drives and Scotty slams over Aldrich! Heart, heart, heart! Bring on Kentucky! The new Vols have risen from the ashes! Two V's up!:peace2:

Some of you want to act like there has not been any room for criticism of this team. They played terrible against USC and have been big disappointments in the tourney. But since the 4 suspensions this team has played really well, they are attacking the goal not just relying on jacking up way too many 3s and they appear to have great chemistry. I want to win and have a great season more than anyone here. I have been critical of this team when it is justified and at some points the criticism has been justifiable. I am really glad we won, I did not think we could.

Just because one criticizes the team and/or coaches does not mean we are not real fans, we just want and expect better from our team.

well I'm not in the habit so much of taking up for people in absentia around here, and I happen to know hat can pretty well answer for himself, but I also know that he has stated many times his disdain for Pearl but makes it clear he will take pleasure in the team's victories, even though he does not sing Pearl's praises. That's just his position. Perhaps his reasons are not rooted solely in Pearl's coaching abilities? I don't feel able to do the same myself, but I don't think hat waffles or misrepresents anything, and I seriously doubt he will change that position based on this or any other victory. Even though I am kind of taking up for him, he may very well lambaste me for doing it, but thats ok..that's just hatvol96.
