Calling Out Pearl Haters (merged)

The ultimate problem with message boards is that we never just celebrate wins anymore. Give credit for the effort and a great win, and hope this carries over to tourney play.

Shouldnt you be halfway through your third bottle of whiskey. It is 10 in the morning dont you know:)

I'm working a few hours drive from home today, so i had to move my drinking commencement back to 3am to compensate. Can't drive to work without a good buzz on, ya know?

Way to go Vols & CBP...not to mention coaches who scouted Kansas & the great Vols fans! Great to see the Bruce Pearl backers on here. Where are ya, hatvol?

hey genius, maybe you didn't see hatvols' thread Section 103 Postgame Report. hatvol attends the games and comments after everyone. maybe you and the rest of the dbags who create these stupid threads should look before speaking

maybe you should ask for his synopsis of the game....then we can throw it in the garbage

I love how our fans have spent the last 15 hours calling out someone who isn't hiding...

I'll answer that. Because of months of fustration. This so called inner circle of tennessee basketball authority experts and high level governing body on what Coach Pearl can and can't do has irritated the he?? out of some people on this site. When someone disagrees with the powers that be, you will be disciplined or verbally flogged. Better yet, your grammer and composition skills will be scrutinized. One point this unholy alliance always forgets is that Tennessee basketball is on the map because of Pearl and only Pearl. So eat s...! Pearl will be here for awhile.

I completely disagree. I think there is every reason to celebrate a big win and this one certainly fits in that category, especially under the circumstances. It demonstrates you have athletes who can compete with the best teams in the country and validates the program.

But what's wrong with people pointing out that its a regular season game in January, and not a Sweet 16 win in the tournament? I mean, if you are a fan of an NBA team that takes one from the conference leader, in January, you high five and move on to the next one because you know its the playoffs that count.

I guess I don't see the two (celebrating but keeping your feet on the ground) as incongruous. In fact, I think they complement each other because the main thing to take away from a big win like this one is the confidence that you can do it in March, when it really matters.

(And in fact re-reading your post Lex I think we are saying the same thing).

It would be interesting to pull up some of these gloaters comments after the USC game.

In the grand scheme of things, here's what that win last night means as of now -

1. If we are a bubble team we're higher on the list to get in.
2. If there is a debate between UT and another team in regards to seeding, we probably get the higher seed.

That's really it. Other than that, it's a very nice early January OOC win.

This win COULD mean a lot more if the team runs with it. If this team bumbles along to a 8-8 conference record and a 7-10 tournament seed, this is just another Memphis 07 game. If they take this win, turn it into 11 or 12 conference wins and make a nice run in March, then it's a lot bigger.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes, it could be the win that took UT to the next level. I'm not commenting on how big of a win it is until I see what the team and coaches do with it.

I do know this.....they've raised my expectations.....a lot. They have showed they can beat the big boys in December-February over and over, now more than ever I expect them to do it in March - because that's where you separate the good from the great.

That's why you have to remember each is one game. They are each important to your tournament-prep resume, to be sure. But in the end the tournament is everything. Once we are in March, no one talks about beating Kansas or losing to USC. It is a very what have you done for me lately set-up.

Yes we are saying the same thing. I was especially proud of the crowd. Enjoy the win and hope it carries over.
