Can we fix our KICKOFF CHANT?

How about we just watch the game and not worry about how we cheer for the kickoff?

Agreed. I'm not sure what the benefits are of an opening chant on kickoffs. I mean its not like Georgia and Alabama don't give up big kick returns and I doubt it has much effect (positive or negative) on the players on the field. The university could create a chant just by putting it on the jumbotron, would be nice to have something uniformly done but personally I don't want to copy others.

Look at running through the T. Other teams have tried to copy that bit they just look like imitators.

This idea will never work. Take a look around these boards. This fanbase can't agree on anything. Seriously, if someone proclaims their hatred for bama there will be someone cry that hating is wrong. A chant would cause fist fights in the stands over what the chant should be.

In the 80's we tried a chant that when the kicker lined up we started "Voooooools" and when the kicker made contact we yelled "V" "O" "L" "S".

Nothing ever stuck. The male cheerleader, Reggie, used to do a good job of getting the students involved pre-game even though I despised the "Boom Chicka Boom" thing.

I'm not proposing a cheer out of nowhere.

I'm trying to pull the kickoff chant out of the nosedive that it's in right now. We TRIED to get a chant started, but we suck at it.

"Aaaaawwwww YUUU!" sounds like we have 100,000 people in the stands, but ten teeth in the stadium.

Well... I actually like the "Aaaaaaaawwwwww Boooooom" !!!

BOOM as in the sound of a musket!
BOOM as in the fireworks after a TD!
BOOM as in the sound of another HS stud committing to UT!
BOOM as in the defense is about to lower the boom on you punks!
BOOM as in.... etc... you add it

Put an image of sorts on the jumbo tron and join along...

but that's just me

So we should just yell **** bama on every kick, then text an usher if someone gets upset!

I'm in favor of unison chants in general. There's no reason why there couldn't be a half dozen or so chants to be used at various times in a game. To get it done, there would probably need to be an official campaign launched by some folks in the football program. A few weeks preparation and the thing would off and running and that would be that.

How about we say...........Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and then right as the kicker kicks it we finish it with........hope you don't catch it and return it for a touchdown because we're sick of losing and being featured on espn for missed tackles. Of course we would have to say the second part really ,really fast!

A lot of schools have unique chants and/or cheers during their kickoffs. In many ways, it's the final acknowledgement and congratulations to the offense's drive and score. Sometimes it's to celebrate the start of a game. It's a battle cry before the defense takes the field. It amps up the special teams to run down the field and lay someone out or force a turnover.

It's only right that UT should have one.
Kickoff of the 2010 Tennessee Vols Season! - YouTube
(2010...sigh)

They all start the same: the fans, in unison slowly build up a "Oooooohhhh" or "Aaaaaaaahhhh"

The energy builds, the volume grows, the team starts running down the field, and the kicker boots the ball.

This is the climax of the experience. The fans are supposed to yell their unique chant or cheer for the team. For instance, UGA fans bark. Alabama fans yell RTR.

As illustrated by the video above, our big kickoff chant is "Aaaaaahhh Boom!" Or "Aaaaaaahh Yuuh!"

Why can't we decide on something a little more complex than the drunken cry of 100,000+ mesmerized by foot-to-pigskin contact? Boom and Yuuh aren't really synonymous with UT or anything that we do here.

What about: Aaaaahhh...U-T Vols!
Or something where we can turn the "U" sound that we all want to make into an actual cheer.

Just adding two syllables to the kickoff takes it from us just yelling nonsense to us chanting something that everyone can get in on. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Does this drive anyone else crazy?

Before people come in here caps locking "WE NEED TO WIN GAMES BEFORE WE CARE ABOUT KICKOFF CHANTS" just know that football season is coming up, and it's inevitable that our fans are going to yell. We're loud, we get wild, we like to chant and sing and yell all sorts of stuff. Might as well agree on something and get it going.

Why not FIX the sad kicking team?

I would love to see a unison chant starting right after the kicker launches the kickoff. Something along the lines of "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ARE Tennessee!"
