Casey Clausen

We haven't had a good QB since C. Clausen. Ainge and Bray had big arms and had some nice games--but neither one had much toughness or leadership ability at all. Bray was very unlucky to play with some of the WORST UT defenses in 50 years. With any kind of defense his tenure probably would have been much more successful.

UT HAS TO START recruiting mobile QBs. We haven't had a QB with even mediocre running ability since....who? I can't even remember the last one! Mobile QBs are a major asset in college--you'd think our coaches would get this by now.

I'd take a guy like CC back in a heartbeat

he didn't play that game and his comments were after it (and probably right)

In general, he ran like a giraffe. :) Everyone knows he couldn't usually scramble worth crap. This pic was of the exception, not the rule. And, I generally liked Casey because, especially on the road, we had a [very good] chance to win (and usually did).

And to the second thing--I was obviously wrong about that then. Who was QB that game, then? I'm thinking about the one in the early 2000s where, right before half, we fumbled and UGA returned it for a TD. I was driving that night and lost radio reception just as that play was happening, so all I saw after that was the final score.

Tee Martin was the last. Really should have been an eye opener for the coaches too. Honestly, Tee wasn't a great QB. He was good, but not great. His one advantage was his ability to move. Had we started recruiting highly rated mobile QB's instead of pocket passers after that who knows how the last several years would have turned out.

Edit: CC would be my exception to the rule though. I really liked him. Even if he did run like a baby giraffe. :)

Casey was the MAN. All he did was win.

The man he was!!! I wish Bray would have had a coach that could have done the job "coaching" he was paid to do. I think Bray had all the tools to be a legend in orange but will be remembered as a OOC performer. Not bashing TB by the way....

never said it wasn't goofy looking but it was effective. The pic I posted was what UT QB's have lacked since he left.

Hustle and mental toughness? Yes, I agree. He was just slow as Christmas and it bothered me. I didn't mean that his running style made him a bad QB. I would also say that it was probably more ineffective running than it was effective. But, on the flip side of that, that's one of the things that made him such a great pocket passer.

Then how can you claim that CPF was never respected or appreciated? I'm honestly curious about this.

The majority of VN will tell you that 152-52 was accomplished when the SEC was "weak". CPF backed into the NC. And the never-ending obesity jokes. A complete shame.

Casey had 230 career rushing attempts for -130 yards but had 6 rushing touchdowns. He was a true pro style QB. He was no worse than Peyton running the ball. Smo is right though, he runs like a giraffe ha!

Gave this guy way too much crap when he played here. Watching some older games, I would love to have a guy like him behind center.

I've been championing his cause for years. Way, way, way underrated. Great quarterback? Maybe not. Tough? Gritty? Winner? VFL?

Hell yes.

sacks are counted against rushing yards. No sober person ever described CC as a running QB but he moved effectively in the pocket. Personally I think it was because of the XL white shoes

You know what they say about big white shoes?
