I was not the biggest Casey fan but I appreciate he was part of some talented teams in Knoxville. I have always tied him (maybe unfairly) to the beginning of our fall from prominence.

Pick 20 posts from the Fulmer thread and you will agree with me.

Did it ever occur to you that Most posters don't go into that thread. Just the ones that are hung up on Fulmer, wether it be in a good way or not. Most of us I would say have moved on and could care less about that thread.

Casey vs LSU will never be forgotten! (At least...I think it was them we beat on the road at tiger stadium that night :D )

It was at Neyland. Kelly Washington had a ton of catches and over 200 tds. Set the record for catches in single game. It was a crazy good game. I was there and it was the second largest crowd in stadium history. Couldnt even go take a leak it was so packed. Best game I've ever been to period

He may be thinking of Rick Clausen, I dunno.

200 tds? That is a record that won't be broken anytime soon. What was the score?

You asked me a question and I provided an avenue to prove my point. You criticized my post and I explained that I was merely drawing a comparison between the two. If you can't handle the facts, don't criticize my posts.

Witch Doctor say our Les Misérables section of the fan base is horrible on former players. Witch Doctor say they compare everyone to Manning and then disparage them because they arent as good or popular or say the right things. Witch Doctor have a few on the family vine too. They came to be Vols, alot has to happen to win so we hate them(?)albeit the Cromptons may have played it up a little too much, they would have been that way no matter where he ended up. Casey and Rick are alright in Witchies book.

I've been championing his cause for years. Way, way, way underrated. Great quarterback? Maybe not. Tough? Gritty? Winner? VFL?

Hell yes.

I respectfully disagree - in my opinion Casey was a great quarterback. Great at reading defenses, making check downs, as cool under pressure as anyone I recall ever seeing. Not a great athlete and not a great arm, but definitely a great quarterback. Check the Elias sports bureau for quarterbacks who in a career have won twice at The Swamp, twice at Bryant-Denny, at Notre Dame, at the old Orange Bowl (Miami) and you will find one QB: Casey Clausen #7. FREAKING LOVE HIM!

lol. Witch Doctor know to tread lightly, dont hate Jon but his Mom blamed everyone in the state why he was not named God of football. But then again she is a parent. Witch Doctor still say VFL but better being a quiet one. haha

I'll never forget the announcer on tv saying Clausen running looked like an octopus falling out of a tree after he scored on a naked bootleg at Notre Dame. Hilarious.

He was a gamer & I never understood why he didn't get more credit. Had several huge road wins. I was there for maybe the best one as he led us to the 5OT win in Tuscaloosa.

He reminded me of a Tennessee Walking Horse when he ran.

Casey had a 78% winning record while he was here.

2000 5 - 0
2001 11 - 2
2002 8 - 5
2003 10 - 3

Really not too shabby at all.

34W-10L
I would love to see that record any day.
I always liked him. He just won and that's all that matters.

We only dream of that now. When he left people around here trashed the guy. Spoiled by the 90s. Consensus love now after our dumpster fire. I think being spoiled and people forgetting the injury in 02' and impending losses, (plus 02' UF fumblefest), were the bad vibes CC got. I don't think he played in all 13 games in 02'. Guy was a baller.

Our fan base would trash ANYONE playing for them...that i am convinced of..Casey was awesome....not to mention he was also a field general for us and always had people in good position to make a play....very underrated college QB...he was just as good of a player as someone like Ken Dorsey who was more decorated because he played at Miami when they were surging, but that's who he always reminded me of...both had the smarts and the grit to win huge games and were great leaders, but both had only slightly above average if not average arms...and yes, Casey seemed to be even better on the road when the pressure was really on...loved that trait about him..iceman...

he didn't play that game and his comments were after it (and probably right)
Those comments were my one knock on CC as well, especally considering that he was 0'fer in the games he did play against UGA.
Solid career otherwise, including 2-0 @ the Swamp, and a huge road win vs Miami.

Casey Clausen was an average QB blessed with a plethora of NFL caliber players during a period of time when Fulmer really stocked the cabinet.
