Beloved Marlin "Carl" viciously murdered. Somewhere Jimmy Kimmel weeps
Fisherman reels in 1,368-pound giant blue marlin - SportsNation - ESPN
I like his books, I think there is one that I haven't read yet. I've been meaning to compare my books/kindle list to make sure. This explains big game hunting and the impact it has on the animals, the people and land.....
The sportsman is forced out by the creation of idealistic but hopelessly unrealistic laws, such as that forbidding the import of any cat pelt in the United States, no matter how legally obtained in it's country of origin. When a species such as a lion or leopard cannot pay its own way through the generation of license fees, rule employment, government export taxes and the many other financial considerations that are so greatly contributed to the preservation of tens of thousands of square miles of virgin Africa and South America for hunting concessions, instead of being turned over to cattle and goats it is consequently of no economic value except for it's poached hide on the black market. Who will reasonably pay for the conservation and management of an animal whose only financial impact upon a backwoods economy is decidedly negative because it kills and eats cattle?
Another paragraph .....
Back in 1977 when I wrote "Death in the long grass" , a collection of my experiences over a decade as a professional hunter and game control officer in Africa, I tried to make the same point about the supposedly endangered Leopard. Now almost 4 years later it is with the intense satisfaction that I can find the Sportsmens argument may have done some good. The US Fish and wildlife services of the department of the interior proposed in the March 24 , 1980, Federal register "reclassification for the leopard." One of the paragraphs sounds as if I had wrote it myself: ..... in addition, the Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to easy it's restrictions to allow the importation of sport hunting trophies as an economic incentive to encourage the Leopard and lion's conservation by landowners in Africa, where in some areas it is is indisxriminatey destroyed as a predator. Trophy hunting brings additional jobs and income to African citizens and landowners and added revenue to the governments from tourist and the sale of hunting license that may cost $500 or more. It is expected that reclassifying The big game feline to give it some economic value will lead to measures to protect it as a valuable resource."
I know it is aged a bit but it explains why big hunting was needed then and is still needed now.

Those were my 1st 2 books, got them at McKay's for almost nothing. Then when I got my kindel I picked up another 2-3 on it. I read a book about Siemel years and years ago back in highschool, I've been trying to find it again. I think it was called "Tigre" or something like that.I own them all and I honestly have "Death in the long grass " and "Death in the silent places" on my desk. I've read them each at least twice and reading "Death in the Silent Places " as I type. I'm currently reading about Alexander "Sasha" Siemel. The great jaguar spear hunter.....

While I detest trophy hunting I detest the people making threats and trying to destroy this guy even more.
How many will stop eating at or start protesting McDonalds if I told you that one of their major franchisees and one time (retired now) head of all McDonalds Europe makes this dentist look like a member of PETA?
His room of death, as I call it, is about 4000 - 5000 sqft and full of trophies from all over the world from a giraffe, lion, tiger, elephant, wolf, you name it all the way down to prairie dogs hundreds of mounts.
I wouldn't. I like my nuggets and Mcdoubles. And I would love to see his trophy room as you room of death is another mans room of stories

OK.
You're on a message board and you don't have to have a reason for mocking his compassion. I am so glad you cleared things up for me.
