Cecil The Lion

This is from National Geographic that came a few weeks ago. This dude has stuffed at least three lions, not a word said. People only care about this story because the lion had been named and the media has told people they should care. There are so many worse things going on.

The boldened happens in a lot more cases than this and it's actually more than a little worrisome in my opinion.

Do I think killing a lion is stupid? Yep. I personally don't get killing anything you aren't going to eat it. But they do have legal trophy hunts. This guy paid for one and hunted on a GAME FARM and was bamboozled by Zimbabwean criminals who lured the animal from a national park.

Now if this dude KNEW they were luring an animal from a protected area and still killed it ok, he can get in some trouble. The reality is Zimbabwe is run by morons and got exposed for being even bigger morons than the rest of the world thought and they must find someone to blame other than themselves.

Looks like brosef had a pretty lucrative dental practice going before this mess. We might be surprised to find that killing a lion isn't his shadiest activity....

wut

I said mocking him doesn't equate to being threatened by him. That response gets thrown out often and it's just stupid.

It's pretty clear why he deserves to be mocked. Juxtaposed to real tragedies, this is issue he gets on tv and cries about? He makes a living of poking fun at people and issues - it's pretty funny that you seemingly take offense to people poking fun at him.

I don't take offense, but I will point out what I think is poor form. It's one thing to chuckle about it when you see Kimmel cry, it's telling when you devoted like 3 posts to mocking him for it (and now are wasting time defending your right to mock).

So mercy killing unwanted cats is comparable to the tragic fashion in which a beloved animal was killed?

To a degree, yes. I don't see how naming a lion magically transforms it into a being more valuable than the rest.

I'm not a hunter and in no way do I support what he did, but there are quite a few current injustices that are more deserving of our attention.

I agree with you other than the fact that lions are relatively rare.

The real difference for me is one is humane and the other is not.

This is simply the manufactured outage of the week. What a small minded world we live in when something like this dominates our news

I shall quote the late great Pete Postlethwaite from "The Lost World":

These days it's a worse crime to shoot a tiger than to shoot your own parents...

Tigers have advocates...

The awesome thing about this is we can use shaming to discourage behavior we don't like.

Who can afford to go on safari to kill big, rare animals?

Rich white guys.

Who doesn't like to be publicly shamed?

Rich white guys.

This crap went viral and everyone knows who this guy is. We can positively shape the world without trying to push rules on people, and that's a great thing.
Shame used to be a tool to keep women from having kids before marriage and men from being lazy bums.

We need more shame in this crazy world.

Poaching =/= abortion, draw all the fantasy lines you want, the cases and situations aren't related in any way (to a sane person, mind you)

I am just pointing out the inconsistencies but keep dodging like the other dolts on here that do. A "sane" person wouldn't get upset over a dead lion since you brought up the issue of sanity.

Those that are critical of other people's money generally have no will or desire to earn it through hard work. Like most Americans they expect a handout from the gubment and complain when it isn't big enough.

Seems from the World News story tonight, the dentist has become the most hated man in the US and Africa --- They said even a crisis management business told him to get lost when he asked for help.

your making a statement, like he knew it was a beloved animal..

he legally went to Africa, and legally hunted a lion...
now he's getting crucified, because his guides put him on the "wrong" lion

I saw a report that 800 other hunters killed lions in Africa..
are they getting death threats and having to close their offices and stop working
