CFP Scenarios (merged)

The commentators after the game in their wrap up both thought we only fall to 4th. Alabama and Clemson lose tonight sure would help with that.
If we remain #4 in the playoff polling, we're in superb shape given our remaining schedule. If Michigan, Clemson and Bama all lose, We'd all but be guaranteed a spot. Wouldn't it make for a great end to an otherwise disappointing Saturday?

I think we got lucky that they put us at #1 for the first week. As long as we whup the next 3 convincingly (back to form) I think the CFP will be unlikely to vote against their earlier choice and we have a very good shot at the playoffs.
Sort of Devils advocate. Yes we start higher and played a great opponent so our strength of schedule improves then takes a huge hit with the next 3. So teams that play in conference championship games will inherit good opponents to climb their SOS. I still think we need loads of help.

I think there are a few ways they would get left. UGA losing in Atlanta for one would cause them to get left out if Clemson is 13-0 and OSU/Michigan are 13-0....

SEC will get 2 teams in this year, it is just a matter of it being UGA and TENN or UGA and BAMA/Ole Miss.

If we are talking precedent aka OSU in 2014, we can make the argument as recently as last year that a #1 ranked 12-0 team losing in Atlanta would stay in the top 4.... UGA didn't stay in the top 4 after getting blasted by Bama last year just because there wasn't another P5 13-0 team out there.
Different scenario than what I’m talking about though. Of course this doesn’t matter as there won’t be 3 undefeated conference champs outside of the SEC.

#4 Clemson, #5 Michigan, and #6 Alabama are currently trailing. If 2 out of 3 of those scores hold, we shouldn't drop any further than 4. We need to win out (with style points) and I think we're in. Call me a homer, but I don't think Georgia beats us again on a neutral site.

If Clemson loses...Think it will be #1 UGA, #2 OHST, #3 MICH, #4 Tenn, #5 Bama, #6TCU....Media would just love #2 vs#3 in Big 10 championship, and Top 5 matchup in SECCG.

An absolute miracle. We won't remain in the top 7 after this loss. I bet we fall outside the top 10. We got dominated in every way you can imagine.
We only have one loss and it is to the defending champs. We still have a better resume than just about anyone else in the picture.

absolutely agree, at first I wished we were not #1, but let’s say if we 3rd or 4th we would drop back further than being #1

Well it's not Tenns fault they're playing a ridiculously tough schedule. Did Tenn prove they are worse than OSU, or Clemson, or Michigan? No, and if Bama wins you know they'll jump Tenn and I will be livid.

Clemson only has to lose once. Oregon and TCU are likely non-factors.

Doubtful. Clemson losing tonight but finishing 12-1 ACC Champ is very much likely in the playoff based on their name and politics. Good chance UNC is ranked top 12 top in that title game as well.

TCU is completely irrelevant regardless of record
