Not all ranked wins are equal. That’s the only conclusion why a 2 loss LSU is ahead of 1 loss USC. Say USC finishes regular season at 11-1, their highest ranked win at time of victory will be around 15-18 range with UCLA / ND.

LSU’s win over Bama was at #7, Ole Miss #7 (pre CFP rankings debut)….

I would dare say those 2 ranked wins far outweigh USC beating 3 15-25 ranked teams. It’s almost like quality of win / opponent trump # of ranked wins.

But you’re leaving out the conference championship, which would be the deciding factor. Kind of an important detail 😂

Thank you. People who think USC will jump us are clueless.
Well maybe with resume as it stands. But as people have pointed out their most impactful games are in consecutive order to finish season and one of those would be a conference championship. Thats not something the committee will overlook just because we started in front.

USCs next 3 games are #16 UCLA, #18 ND and either #10 Utah or #12 Oregon. That’s 3 ranked wins. If USC wins out they are definitely in.

Not sure those 3 wins would trump LSU having wins over #14 Ole Miss (#7 at time of game), #8 Bama (#7 at time of game) and #1 Georgia (SEC title yet to be played) to close season.

I mean just from the eye test, what is a more impressive record? 3-0 vs UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon / Utah or 3-0 vs Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss

For the record, I do not believe LsU wins in Atlanta. I do think Committee is setting LSU up to have solid shot at a playoff spot with a win vs Georgia if TCU drops a game though

Penn State was the B10 champ in 2016 and they put OSU in over them. Why? PSU had 3 losses.

Penn State also didn’t have enough good wins. They beat a ranked OSU and went into the conference title week at #7 playing #6 Wisconsin. That is a bit different from LSU being ranked #6 playing #1 Georgia in the final weekend.

And I believe they're setting Tennessee up for an Ohio st or Michigan loss

I would take Tennessee over either if I had to put my money on the game and the Vols would probably be favored by double digits against both teams, but the bottom line is if TCU and USC wins out, Tennessee will be left out of the playoff along with the loser of the Ohio State/Michigan game.

I also want to add to this post that I think there is zero chance LSU makes the playoff over Tennessee. Only way I can even see LSU making the playoff is if TCU, USC, and the ACC winner finish the season with multiple losses and 3 SEC teams get in.

That’s USCs next 3 games. If they win out that’s the most impressive 3 game stretch of any team in the top 25 to finish the season. If you don’t think a 1 OT loss USC P12 champ isn’t getting in after those wins it’s you who are clueless.

Don’t confuse the purpose of the committee. Get the best 4 teams that provide the most eyes (ie $$). The LA market is a big one. That is more important than the conference championship.

I don't think the LA market matters. They'd still be watching everything but USC. If it did, then they would probably have higher television ratings.

LSU making the playoff doesn’t automatically mean Tennessee is left out. Not sure why people are drawing conclusion that Tennessee is competing with LSU for a spot

I believe the committee has a vested interest in maximizing the conferences represented and accordingly a 12-1 USC PAC12 trumps other 1 loss teams without a conference championship. If TCU and USC win out I see us on the outside looking in.

12-1 with no top 10 wins and conference title or 11-2 with 2 top 7 wins and conference title….. i know which resumè is better.

LSU has zero chance of making the playoff unless the other conferences have multiple losses over the next 3 games.

Tennessee is fighting TCU and USC for a playoff spot, and unfortunately for the Vols, I think they get left out if both of those teams win out.

Oops, I was thinking there was an undefeated team that got left out recently. Not sure why TCU popped in my head lol

Yeah, it was a few years ago that they were barely left out

Edit: 2014 TCU and Baylor each had one loss (I believe to each other) and we’re left out as # 5 and 6. Time flies!

TCU loses a game and LSU can play their way in. Tennessee is not fighting with anyone. We are going to the playoff with an 11-1 record.

LSU’s sole hope on making playoff depend on TCU dropping a game and winning in Atlanta vs Georgia.

USC needs a TCU loss and LSU loss (likely Atlanta vs Georgia)

Tennessee is a lock to go to CFP.

LSU beats UGA they are in no question. We will absolutely be left out if both USC and TCU wins out.

Until USC jumps LSU, they have no shot. If LsU is still #6 after 12 games, USC needs hope and prayer. USC’s resume is trash

Until they play and beat UCLA and Notre Dame. They will then jump LSU and then TN if they win the PAC 12 title. Hopefully they lose Sat but I was left down by the Texas loss to TCU. It frustrating needing other teams to lose, so we can get in. But the same thing happens in the NFL throughout the end of the season.

Dude there is literally no way 3 SEc teams make the playoffs. Just stop.

Says who? You act like an 11-2 LSU SEC Champ with two Top 10 wins would have a weaker resumè than a 12-1 USC PAC12 champ with zero Top 10 wins….

And I clearly said LSU needs help and that is TCU dropping a game. The idea that Tennessee is somehow “battling” for a spot is absurd. We are going to the playoff.

How so? Does LSU not also play for a conference title?

How so what? If usc closes out with 3 ranked wins and a conference championship, finishing as a 1 loss conference champ will most likely get them into the playoff over a 1 loss team with no conference championship. If Lsu wins out and beats Georgia in the sec title game, They would have a shot to sneak in as well.
