AFAIK - testimony from the "muggers", video footage of the "muggers" buying the supplies, magazines and other documents that supposedly match up with the items cut up and used to create the threatening letter, text messages and calls between JS and the "muggers", the check to the "muggers

Thanks

Allegedly the smoking gun in the case seemed to be the check Smollett had written for over 3 grand. If that wasn't a pay off then how else was it explained in the case?

Witnesses to what? Did they see the assault and say they could tell the assault was fake? Who are they? Or has everybody just taken the police's word for it?

Witness testimony falls apart all the time. Eye witness evidence isn't extremely reliable, even if the witness seems credible.

The fact that it was a hoax perpetrated by Smollet came to light in his statements made to police (contradictory and clearly false) during the investigation, video surveillance of two brothers purchasing red hats and rope at a hardware store as well as their admission they were paid by Smollet to purchase said items and fake the attack, a check signed by Smollet paid to the brothers, among other evidence.

I'm guessing (pure speculation) that there was pressure to drop the charges from "higher up" and there was some police misconduct (maybe via public statements) that was deemed a sufficient excuse to yield to the pressure to drop.

I never paid much attention to this story. I assumed he was guilty because that was the narrative. What actual confirmed evidence is there?
He is still guilty. The justice system just isnt going to waste its time on him.

There were no witness to the alleged assault. The witnesses are the 2 dudes who allegedly participated. I don't even think security cameras picked up the alleged assault.

Also his lawyers redacted for lack of a better term Smollett's cellphone before making it available to the PoPo

Whether or not it's true remains to be seen. However, if anyone has friends in high places and wield significant influence in situations such as this, he would have been a fool to not contact that individual and ask for some assistance.

The funny thing is he made sure to point out the security camera to law enforcement that was pointed the wrong way.

I pray to God I never have to rely on this justice system if my freedom were hanging in the balance. If there's any question the country isn't already lost, this should answer it. Every last player has a motive, from sitting judges to politicians and prosecutors. And they will apply their pressure to fit their narrative or motives. God help us all.

It did not, but the fact Smollet pointed out the security camera (pointed in the wrong direction) tipped off investigators to 1) how did he know it was even there and 2) it was obviously not pointed in the direction of where the "attack" occured, so Smollet would have known that as well.

Ok, so the whole case was just a he said/they said story to which there was no obvious evidence to conclude one way or the other.
I mean, the two Nigerian brothers admitted they were the "attackers" which completely flies in the face of two white guys shouting "this is MAGA country", so I'd say it's a bit more than that.

Also if the check was for a debt repayment, haven’t those guys just admitted to assualting Smollett?

They wouldn't have charged as heavily as they did (16 felony counts) if it was he said/they said.
I wonder if the 16 counts was done on purpose. Go over the top, so when they drop they have the excuse of saying they were doing too much.
