Charlie Strong

You must have crushed the ACT with those reading skills and now math skills:

"Any particular reason why Strong is in the second group? Is there any rhyme or reason to your groupings whatsoever?"

"Where did list 1 get their start?"

"This is probably the most ignorant post I have ever seen!"

That would be one person claiming ignorance

But back to topic, the traditional powers list and the last 25 years of national champions give you 3 categories of coaches:

1. Multiple 9 game winners
2. Top assistants who went directly to the team they coached to a NC
3. Coaches who did not win 9 games multiple times previously

#1 is 9 times more likely to win at the highest level, top assistants are 4 times more likely than #3.

It's pretty hard to win 9 times twice in three years when you take over a dumpster fire, no?

We talking bout strong and Fisher ... there's no way we can wait that long to hire either ... in January ...

If strong gets the job would it hurt or benefit us if he coached his team in the orange bowl but went to work for us immediately??

Would it be bad on recruiting to, if jimbo and Charlie are the top 2, wait til after that game was over? They're 2 solid guys, but idk if they'd be able to really do much with recruiting that late in the game.

Should Hart go after one of them before that game and have one of those teams knowing they'll lose their coach?

It's a stupid measuring stick. To his defense I might agree that strong needs a little more seasoning thus getting that requirement if he hadn't spent so many years paying his dues as an elite DC. I believe he was looked over for jobs without a doubt.

What does group #3 look like if you take out coaches who were hired despite not trending up. Strong has been improving Louisville. Dooley had not been improving Louisiana Tech. So what does it look like when you split the group that way?

Charlie Strong
Al Golden
Derek Dooley
Gene Chizik
Lane Kiffin
Bill Callahan
Tyrone Willingham
Tommy Tuberville
Gerry DiNardo

There's not a single coach on that list who has a similar resume to Strong. Most were either NFL washouts or consistently mediocre/below average in college. Al Golden is the only one who is even arguable, but he had his success in a worse conference with Temple.

To put Strong in the same group as those coaches as if their completely different/inferior resumes have any bearing on his future success is downright criminal.

I think you are mixing up two different posters. The goal is to win the SEC and put yourself in a likely position to go to the NC game. Which of the following lists would you rather choose a coach from if you had the choice?

1
Urban Meyer
Nick Saban
Brian Kelly
Rich Rodriguez
Jim Tressel
Mack Brown
Brady Hoke
Jim Donnan
Mike Price
Pete Carroll
Dennis Franchione

2
Charlie Strong
Al Golden
Derek Dooley
Gene Chizik
Lane Kiffin
Bill Callahan
Tyrone Willingham
Tommy Tuberville
Gerry DiNardo

Let's split group 2 down a little bit

Trending up at their previous stop:

Charlie Strong
Al Golden

Trending down or holding steady at their previous stop:

Derek Dooley
Gene Chizik
Lane Kiffin
Bill Callahan
Gerry DiNardo

Improving from prior coach, but not maintaining a steady upward trend:

Tommy Tuberville
Tyrone Willingham

List looks different now, doesn't it?

The same people who don't want Strong are the same one's that didn't want Sumlin and we all know what happened with that.

it isn't just me but 3 other people thought your post was ignorant. :lolabove:
It is ok to admit that you would rather have a coach who has won 9 games multiple years.

It just seems to me Strong is equal parts John Chavis and Tyrone Willingham. Consider the following quotes about Willingham:

“I think it’s a great hire. Coach Willingham is probably the top coach in the country. He gets his players to play hard. He gets the best out of his guys on and off the field. With him going to Notre Dame, where he can get better athletes than he can at Stanford, he’s going to be successful and turn that program around.”

"Stanford signs one of the top recruiting classes in the nation."

I see some of the same descriptors being used for Strong...

This post is just steeped in racism. Sickening.

He has proven he can field Defensives that can win in the SEC at 2 different schools and he is an HC and I would rather have him than Jimbonehead Fisher who will not win in the SEC

BurnieVeazey I really hope your not serious. If you are you have no idea about the game of football

No interview between UT and Strong yesterday or today. He has not spoken to UT yet. He says he spoke to Strong.

Wasting your time in here. Strong haters are hell bent on knocking the guy. Hope they enjoy watching him run through the T in the fall.

Strong supporters are hell bent on ignoring facts about his league and his record and defending the guy....Hope they enjoy him at UL for another year
