Charlie Strong

Strong does have experience at the upper level as an assistant (where he was known as a fantastic recruiter), and he has consistently exceeded expectations at a lower level as a head coach.

That combo beats most of the guys on our list.

Being the HC of an upper level is a bit different, so no, he doesn't have that experience.

He may get there one day, perhaps the move to the ACC would be a good first step in that direction for him. Let's see how he does against VT and Clemson before bringing him to the Big Leagues.

Sure, it's a bit different. But would you rather have a coach who exceeds expectations at a lower level or falls short of expectations at a higher level?

(also he has beaten someone better than Clemson)

Batman still disregards the fact that Urban, Richt, Mischamp, and Sumlin hadn't been in the "big leagues" before their recent success.

West Virginia? Rutgers?

Just because they start from the same place does not mean they are guaranteed to wind up in the same place.

I never said that, but if you can't see Charile Strong has potential then I don't know what's wrong with you. I understand we need a homerun hire but you also have to plan for the future. If he is good, which I think he will be, he'll probably retire here.

Meant to put instate talent to recruit from. And no, you can't argue with that, New Jersey is a recruiting hotbed.

New Jersey with their eight 4*'s? Dude, TN has eight 4*'s AND a 5*. Guess TN is even more of a hotbed! :eek:lol:

No use even trying to argue with the Strong Supporters...they will call you either a "Grudenite" or a "Racist".....its Strong or no one for them.....almost as bad as the "Grudenites"

This would be like Babe Ruth pointing to the outfield wall and hitting a single. Don't think Strong has proven he could be a top coach in the SEC.

Hey now, I've been actually discussing things, and Strong is my #1 choice (assuming Gruden is out). The arguments in favor of Strong are pretty strong, there's no need to resort to name-calling.

I know it's been discussed in this thread but the thing that still gives me concern with Strong is the # of times he was passed over by Florida. It could have been internal politics or it could be their honest evaluation of his HCing abilities.

that's just it, we don't see the strong argument here. what are the differences between strong and davis? championship caliber dc, and inroads to Florida recruiting can be applied to both.... davis has had a lot more success as a head coach.

strong is 9 years younger than davis? ncaa troubles for davis? those are on the horizon at lville as well

NCAA troubles at UL?

No one has an answer for that. Maybe UF wanted to go a different direction, although a case can be made that Muschamp and Strong had very similar resumes.

Who knows.
