Charlie Strong

Even though I am firmly a Tennessee man and an alumnus I cannot see why Fisher would want to leave Florida State for Tennessee. So much easier to recruit to the warm climate of Florida State. Someone tell me why unless the only reason would be he wants to be in the SEC.

Skeeter posting this gem:

Sounding like Strong may be offered soon. Louisville has the money, but they would have to pay more than Tennessee to keep him, not just match. Strong wants to be in the sec.

as much as I dont want him....it does look like it could be Strong....I will not support him until he does something here, if he is hired...by that I mean actually win the East....sorry but that is my goal for him to reach before I will accept him.....if he does that then to me that would cement the decision to hire him over Davis or Petrino.....flame away but it will not change my mind....

Getting hired is the first thing he can do to be supported by our fanbase. Geez...

Support the coach of the U of T until he gives you reason not to. I don't understand some people...

Strong blows chunks. Would be as bad a settle as Dooley. You wanna talk about his credentials? Its the BIG EAST for crying out loud. 7-6 his first two years, getting blasted by Syracuse, barely beating Rutgers, etc. He has won 10 games because the Big East is a glorified version of the MAC. I don't know what some of y'all had in your kool aid but supporting this hire would be ridiculous. Not to mention his recruiting is incredibly overrated.Get some pride about you. We're Tennessee. No more settling for mid tier coaches.

+1

I think we hire Strong, and the money we save over hiring someone like Fisher can be spent on a stellar assistant corps

What are you going to think about Strong after he gets his tail waxed by Muschamp in the Sugar bowl?

Nothing because of the talent difference (Big East vs SEC). That said good chance he doesn't coach the BCS game because he will be recruiting for us.

But while he was at Florida, he was recruiting those top classes. That defense was all recruited by Strong.

Well if we hire him, there's a good chance he doesn't coach that game

That would save him from a crushing defeat at the hands of FL.

Oh wait, it would only save him for a few months until the crushing defeat would happen in the regular season to FL.

Strong is another Dooley. Do not want UT to settle. Say no to:

Strong
Jones
Fedora

Bears repeating. I do not want Strong as our coach. I don't discount the terrible record (24 - 15) over 3 years in a horrible Big East.

You say he did that with big east talent on his team? I say if you are a great coach you will get great talent no matter where you coach.

I say coaching is only a part of what brings kids to schools. Facilities, tradition, name recognition...

You said he has coached great? I say Petersen has coached great with Boise talent against a weak conference and beaten big teams (Oklahoma). He never had a 24 - 15 record after 3 years.

I say that the two points aren't mutually exclusive. They could both be great coaches, no? I haven't found any NCAA rule that says there can only be one great coach in college football at any one time.

No to Strong. We don't need another Dooley or a slight improvement over Dooley.

I say, get the best coach we can possibly get to come to UT, then support him until he gives us reason not to. Hopefully the AD will do his part, and then the fanbase will do ours.

It took forever for Strong to even get a head coaching job...Nobody wanted him to begin with and Louisville was the first to even offer him...Nobody would hire him and he pulled out the race card and the fact he has a white wife and quite honestly We don't need someone like that at Tennessee...If anything was to go wrong at UT and he didn't win here UT would be branded racist for firing him...We don't need that crap, Let him stay at UL...They like him there so let him ride that wave for as long as he can.

i understand your point but i do not believe this at all. if the the team shows improvement from better coaching, how could you not get behind him?

The competition is all relative

Also Teddy Bridgewater has been injured for the last 2 games.

Strong came in, took a team that was 4-8 the previous year, and won a bowl game the next season.

He has since finished 1st the Big East the past 2 years.

He can recruit and is a great defensive coach.

So basically you didn't have a good answer for any of my information.

24 - 15 is not a good record. I pointed out other coaches in weak conferences that didn't have a bad record like that, got great players.

sorry...will not support if he is hired....until he accomplishes something here....

I am tired of being a blind supporter and being let down...that was the same argument for Dooley....support until he gives you a reason not to....look where that got us....

I don't care if Gruden came here it might be awhile before we win the East again. What I want to see is improvement. As long we are shown improvement year after year I will fully support our coach.
