Regardless of his head coaching resume, his resume as a defensive coordinator in the SEC is exemplary. That alone should get him consideration. He knows what it takes to win in the SEC and he now knows what is expected of a HC. Get him a quality OC, some good recruiters (already in place) and let him build that defense. He could easily be better than Will Muschamp.
I don't see the difference between Strong and Jimbo Fisher and Kevin Sumlin? Fisher is in a pushover conference where has lost some games he should have won.
If you had ever been part of a collegiate football team, you would know where I am coming from.
Simple question ... What has coach Strong showed in Louisville that allows him qualified to be a successful coach in the SEC? That is other than beat Kentucky this season.
NC defenses in the SEC as DC . Has put together dominant SEC defenses. Great recruiter especially in Fla and the Southeast. Took over 4-8 team and immediately turned them into a winner and 10-2 by third season. Brought talent to a bad program. Hot name would get recruits excited.
He was still 10-2. Who do you think is a hot name then? I hear CS when talking about openings at big programs. That makes him a hot name. He has name recognition from UF/SC and what he has done at UL.
if the only thing that matters is a hot name then it's Gruden all day long. Strong's name is nowhere near hot enough to change our fortunes in Knoxville and he hasn't won any notable games and his "notable" games at Louisville don't even include top 25 teams. We just spent a TON of money to fire a guy because he couldn't win the big games, except his "big games" included teams that make up half of the BCS top 10. Strong may be a great coach somewhere else but he would not a good hire for our present situation.
