Chaz Nimrod hits the portal

We will still need to lose a few more. A numbers thing. We’ll be fine.
Bro what are you talking about??

I literally just posted our scholarship WRs above your post.

We will have lost 4 WRs when this season is done. We’re only bringing in 3 true freshman so far…

However ... we will also be "bringing in" guys who have mostly been on the bench this year, whether healing from injury or just learning the offense better and getting stronger, guys like Matthews, Staley and Leacock, and I like those three and look forward to seeing older wiser stronger versions of them getting experience and confidence that comes with reps on the field. Now ... should we lose one or more of those, then that would definitely turn up heat on portal shopping.

Edit: Well, hell. Leacock also in the portal.

I think the TEs get twice as many targets next season. That will cut down on the WR rotation enough for the young guys to get their feet under them.

This kinda hurts. Wonder if he is kicking the tires for more money.

Nimrod has played in 23 career games with six starts and owns 28 catches for 309 yards with one touchdown.
I don't think it hurts too much. It's not like we throw the ball a ton. I assume Matthews will be a focus next year .... and we will see what Staley can do. We're fine.

Surely the staff targets a WR in the portal now. Especially given our WRs inability to stay healthy.
.... and you know, actually catch passes when the ball hits them in the hands. This isn't much of a loss.

Nimrod is a Roberto Duran WR. "Manos de Piedra."

13 yards per game.....MM should be able to cover that production

Matthews plays outside. His best buddy and classmate Staley will get the snaps at Slot WR behind Squirrel in the playoffs instead of Nimrod. MM could definitely play in the slot though. Great kid and super talented.

Staley might be getting some snaps in the playoffs. It doesn't count against his redshirt anyway.

This. Staley is very talented too. I hope he gets mucho practice reps and has a big playoffs performance.

I hope so. We need to play lots of 12 personnel (2TE) sets in my opinion its our strength this season. Extra blockers for the run game, and Kitselman has been money all year. The other 2 have been solid also.

As far as next year, we have 2 VERY talented top10 in the country level TEs in this 2025 class we just signed. Both will need to bulk up a little and become better blockers...but both of the new guys are OUTSTANDING receiving threats that will be a mismatch for both LBs and DBs. They can be deadly in the passing game. Check out some of their tape in the RF if yall are curious.

Won't matter. We'll pick a better one (or ones) from the portal. Every team deals with this so that makes it the same problem for everyone. Indiana won 3 games in 2023 but as of now has won 11 in 2024. Make good picks from the portal and coach em up. Don't worry about anybody that goes into the portal just wish em luck. We'll be fine if the staff does it's job.

In the Book of Genesis, Nimrod was a mighty hunter.

In Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny sarcastically referred to Elmer Fudd as such, and children, unaware of the biblical reference, assumed it was an insult and began using it as such.

The more you know 💫
In keeping with the Bugs Bunny theme ....

Bugs would often derisively refer to Daffy Duck as a "maroon." That was a slang term in the south for a runaway slave, or the descendant of a runaway slave (Daffy was a black duck). Those Looney Tunes cartoons were produced before political correctness became a thing.

It is interesting to me that Nimrod is a biblical figure known as a great hunter but since bugs bunny sarcastically called Elmur Fud nimrod everyone now thinks it means an idiot. The cultural impact of bugs bunny is still with us.

edit: someone beat me to it!
Nimrod: grandson of Ham (whose father was Noah).

Sorry to imply the need to lose WR. I just meant that we need to lose a few more
players to the portal because we are having a numbers issue for the total 85

yes, our WR room is certainly a weakness for the Vols. I thought Nimrod and Webb both
had a good looking future ahead of them. I'm not happy they left at all.

It's free agency run amok. That's the name of the game in college football for a very very short while. They'll fix the transfer situation soon. But for now, easily replaceable.
How they gonna fix it? SCOTUS said you can‘t enforce transfer rules on student athletes that you don’t on normal students.

All they can do is enforce deadlines on all student transfers.

Bring on Dane Key and Hudson. Need to start looking for a long snapper, Salansky has been flawlessly consistent on punts, FG, and PATs.

Or not?

White (Sr)
Brazzell (Jr)
Matthews (So)
Leacock (RsSo)
Staley (RsFr)
Jackson (Fr)
Dodson (Fr)
Smith ( Fr)

Walkons
Sneed
Weary

Heupel preaches competition but he’s always looking for WR types to make the opposition have to defend different skillset.

If we go to the portal it will be for a speed guy imo. Or he just rolls with the guys he has.
We will get at least 1 or 2 WR from the portal. We've already lost 2 to the portal, we're losing Bru and Thornton to graduation. We've seen in limited cases where true freshman get on the field a lot. Our depth will not be flooded with a lot of experience next year.

I say if they are allowed to hit transfer portal before the playoffs then you should be able to reload from the portal just before the playoffs.
Interesting idea, but I think that would create more problems than it would solve in a way. But what the hell, college football is becoming a mercenary endeavor anyway, so why not?
