Exactly. We have a very bright future.
The Captain of the Titanic after hitting the iceberg „This is still a state of the art ship and we are ahead of schedule. There will be a slight delay while we assess a minor scratch“
Not saying we are sinking. But something is off BADLY and needs fixed or we will sink. That level of malaise and lethargy CANNOT. HAPPEN. AGAIN.

Did any of you crybabies actually watch the game last night? USCjr's execution was near perfection. Rattler's passes were spot on, his receivers got open, he found them and he hit them. Yes, we were flat, but they played a damned good game.
Thanks for the unneeded insult. Not crying and watched every second. It seemed we wanted to give Rattler a chance to make his usual mistakes. It became obvious early that he was on his game. Did we adjust our defense accordingly? Should we have recognized the need to bring pressure?

C'mon man, give everyone a chance to decompress! It's still raw, and the disappointment over what possibly slipped away is still way too fresh. Let everyone vent and get it out now, and by late in the week the reality of what an incredible season this was will sink in. After we beat Vandy (and we will beat Vandy), only nega-vols not worth paying attention to anyway will attempt to knock what is a huge step forward for the program and a season full of incredible memories.[/QUOTE me and my little girl will be there to watch the destruction of candy, i wish they would never win another game

I’ve wondered if people would be happier if Bama made their FG for the win but we beat SoCar?
I would not.

I really think the problem is 99% of these people just don’t understand the concept of variance.

Any one of the big plays we made against Bama could have been negated by holding calls, drops, over throws, tips, etc.

The same is true for every play USC made against us.

You can’t judge any team/coach off a one game sample. This staff/team has overachieved this season and it’s impressive. We should all be proud

I am a posivol but there must be accountability. I get we do not have great talent on defense but that does not excuse being out of position over and over again.

Coaches don’t suit up and play. Sometimes you just end up with guys that can’t or don’t get it done on the roster you inherited no matter how much you coach them.

That’s the part no one is talking about. Within every game variance in outcomes occurs. Every play they hit could’ve been a drop, batted down at the line, an overthrow, etc. deep shots are often called 50/50 balls for a reason. But last night they kept calling heads and it kept landing on hands. Sometimes that happens. Especially when you have a highly talented Qb.
And yet, those highly talented quarterbacks and absolutely perfect execution are somehow missing for 11 weeks of the season until a Tim Banks defense takes the field? Sorry, doesn’t pass the smell test. Cellar dwellers don’t magically become monster teams in seven days between Florida and UT.

So we go from making the playoffs, to we was expecting an 8-4 season anyways . How does this make it okay! Had an outside shot at a Natty but it’s okay to lose like that because we was expected to win only 8 anyways . The thought process makes ZERO sense .
No, you are missing the point. We was never supposed to be in the natty conversation, everyone on this board would have took 9-3 or 8-4 with a win over FL. Everyone before the season started. The point is it was a great run, it was extremely fun but it didn’t go our way, the season is not a failure because of it. We still seen vast improvement, that is good enough for me considering we have dealt with a coaches who worried about showering etiquette, bricks getting stacked the right way and having enough mcmoneybags.

We all knew this was supposed to be a 8-4 season, we all knew our defense would catch up with us at some point. 2 years ago we wasn’t bowl eligible, we beat FL , we beat Bama. If we finish next week at candy this has been an extremely successful season. What we seen last night is a horrific defense that has been sheltered by a great offense get exposed. Nothing more, coaches didn’t forget how to coach, it just finally caught up with us. We are 2 years ahead of schedule and the future looks bright. It sucks to lose to SCjr but that is what makes the SEC the best conf in the nation. Chill out people and be thankful for where we are compared to where we was.

Gonna stick an ice pick in my eye if I read another post sugarcoating our current predicament with "Cheer up, we weren't suppose to win 8 games, be HAPPY everyone!!" Two weeks ago we were #1 and had the CFB world in the palms of our hands and we crapped our pants twice now! I refuse to be happy about that. For many of us, it's been 24 long freaking years..................I'm just so disappointed.

We had some excellent coverage at times, and they still completed passes. Like I said in a previous post, the thing you’re not understanding here is variance.

There’s no SEC game (outside of Vandy some years) that any SEC team would win 100 out of 100 times. Within each game there’s plays that could go either way that determine outcomes like this.

If we played that game 100 times, the odds of Rattler playing that well again are slim.

Could we have played better? Sure. But until we get to the UGA/Bama level of talent, these types of disappointments are going to occur from time to time

You realize they’ve already had multiple big upsets this season and last, and that their QB was a former heisman trophy candidate right?

I’m not saying they’re monsters at all. Just that they had enough talent to perform to this level if the stars aligned and last night they did.

Until we get our talent on the UGA/Bama level of the spectrum, this will always be a possibility. The possibility that too many things go right for the other team for us to overcome

I think we can be thankful for the season, but I also think we can be disgusted with the performance last night. There is no excuse for the display last night. If people want to vent their disappointment they have every right to. The stakes were way to high to give that sort of performance. This loss will define this staff for years to come whether justly or not. And while most will be happy with this season and no matter if we over performed, the results last night tarnish a historical season

I watched the defense quit and give up 63 points. To be fair, I turned it off in 3rd quarter. Sorry, cannot cheer for a team of crybaby who throw a season because of Banks starting a fight and NIL crap. They want NIL, then they shouldn't have the 120th ranked passing defense.

Not really mad at coaches or offense, I am mad at the defense and we should be, they quit on us.

Yes it is an improvement from last year and yes it has been a good season but shots at a national title don't come around every year for this program.

Understandable for people to be freaking out a little and being concerned going forward.

Amen, brother. I wouldn't trade the Alabama win and the way it signaled our (premature, as it turns out) arrival back into the CFB elite for anything, even a SC beatdown.

SpaceCoastVol really nails the biggest factor in this game imo. The Vols have been on TV tearing up defenses, tearing up goal posts, smoking ceegars, etc. South Carolina must have been jacked up sky-high to take on this team. Our guys, not so much maybe - it was just South Carolina. Maybe this game is a lesson in living with success? Once you've beaten the Gators and Bama in the same season, you still have to play the rest of the schedule of hungry, hungry caterpillars. Let's watch out for Vandy!!

And as someone who has watched 40 million UT football games I can tell you this was NOT the worst upset in program history by a long shot. I would give you examples, but my psychotherapist wants me to let it go, just let it go.

Dear Vols, I love you, please kill Vandy
Go Vols!!

Carolina’s receivers balled out last night.
They made plays and our secondary did not, period.

We are kinda like that basketball team that lives or dies by the three ball.
We are going to live or die by the long ball, except when there is 30 seconds on the clock and then for some reason we can pick a secondary apart by going into another gear.
🤷‍♂️

Happier, of course not. Less worried about the direction of the team, you bet.

Why don't we let the dust settle just a little before jumping to conclusions about the direction of the team? It's the day after and still incredibly raw for everyone, and the rumor mill is running full steam ahead - let's see what's actually going on before assuming the worst.
