Is the Apache commonly used in pro defenses?

Apache, Spur, Star, Bandit, Rover etc . . . . Usually it's just a cool name given to a 3rd Safety that usually plays on the weak side. In the NFL, it would probably be referred to as a Nickleback most of the time and would be filled by a 3rd cornerback.

I'm impressed! You actually included the term the Gamecocks used a few years ago for the position. The problem was, our "Spur" rarely drew blood.

I don't go to the game to watch the band. You know that. :post-20645-1119625378:

Interestingly, I just looked it up and the ND Defensive Coordinator is Rick Minter. It's no wonder that an Apache and a Spur are the same thing since he was at South Carolina in 2004.

You may not go to watch the band, but I think it's safe to say that you are partial to the Bratwurst and nachos.

Of the few coaches that Spurrier kept from Holtz's staff, many Gamecock fans were hoping that Minter would have been one. It's obvious now that he would have been a good one to hang on to. Tyrone Nix is a young coach. Maybe he'll pan out when it's all said and done, but Minter is proven.

Hmmm, Smith said in his last update that UT was saying safety all the way. I highly, highly doubt they are recruiting him for FB since they already have a commit from a FB(Kevin Cooper).

So he's like a sweeper in soccer?

More like a stopper. I know this is me being a nerd, but I'll explain my uneducated rationale.

As you know, in soccer, the sweeper plays in front of the fullbacks and can be very offensive or defensive.

A stopper plays behind the fullbacks, playing very very defensively minded all the time.

It sounds like Apache, Rover, et. al plays on the weak side, so maybe a stopper? This was silly.

I don't have a source. This comes from quotes from Harrison himself. I doubt your source is better than Smith himself.

I don't know man. Sometimes teenagers are so confused that they really don't understand their own thoughts and actions. It's much better to let us adults make your decisions for you. :nener:

Donald's comments according to ND board:
"It went great. I had a great time. My parents had a great time, and my cousin had a great time. I'm going to have a hard decision coming up. It's going to be harder than I thought...it's going to be real hard. They're even."

"Everything about them... the coaches. the school's not too big, the playres are great. The academic part of it is great and the athletics are coming up. It's a family atmosphere in South Bend. I can tell the town revolves around the football team.

"Met Brady Quinn, Maurice Crum, Toryan Smith they said that Notre Dame shoots straight with you and that they deliever, so you can't beat that.

He had planned on making a decision at the end of next week... He's not sure he will be able to now...more likely two weeks... He might have to take his official visits.

hmmm????

He was talking to a ND guy, what did you expect. I seriously doubt that they are even.
He was talking to a TN guy when he said he removed the UT sticker from his trucke because he wanted to wash it. What does that mean? I think this is a sincere statement. As a top prospect who has been a UT fan his entire young life I am sure that he understands, or has been told, how huge his early commitment to UT would be in terms of getting the fans behind him and building some recruiting momentum. What I'm saying is that IMO if he was 100% certain of becoming a Vol he would have done it by now. There is obviously some doubt on his part and ND is in a good position to exploit that type of doubt. I said a month or so ago that I would not be surprised to see Tate, Donald and Smith at ND next year. I hope it does not happen but I will not be surprised.

I just have a gut feeling that Donald is ND bound, but someone on here said they had a "source" and would bet their life he come to the Hill, if you're going to bet your life you must be pretty certain

I think that if the visit only brought ND even with UT that we will still land him. He will get home, relax and think about it, receive a few calls from our coaches(and texts) and commit to us.
