ND does not offer L&T nor Nuclear Engineering. So, you cannot use those programs in response to my statement comparing similar programs at the respective universities. Also, you might be a firm 'beleiver' in your supposed 'factual' statement, however, I believe that learning in classes with a 15:1 student to faculty ratio is more advantageous to any and all students than a lecture hall environment and a 200:1 student to faculty ratio.

Also, I highly doubt that the books that students at UT are reading are the same books that students at Notre Dame are reading.

That is competely absurd, does ND have a vault where they keep these special books?

Also, you would think such a high and mighty institution could offer programs in these areas. Guess they are not so high and mighty after all.

College academic rankings are basically bs. The more a college costs the higher ranked it is.

Really? Then why is it that a college that is absolutely free to any and every student admitted always ends up in the Top 5?

Well, there ya go trUT. What if Donald wants to go into LnT or NE? Can't go to ND for that.

If his parents are concerned about the prestige of his degree coming from UT or ND, then I am doubting he is looking into fields which only UT offers. I guess I would call that logic.

Are they looking into those special books that you referred to ND having?

So... Does anyone know what Donald is going to study? Is he going to be a Criminal Justice or a computer engineer? Chances are he isn't looking at the education but rather at playing time and TV time.

You do know that for about the past 10 years, most every university has custom texts, don't you? Therefore, UT has different texts than Vandy, ND, UNC, Auburn, Alabama, etc.

Hat and therealUT are correct. Notre Dame is a more prestigious school academically than UT. If Donald wants to major in a program that is offered at UT but not at Notre Dame, then his choice is obvious. If his intended major is offered at both schools and he and his parents truly are seriously concerned about academics, then the choice is also relatively obvious. Notre Dame is a more prestigious school academically than UT.

I can't believe everyone is arguing that UT's education is comparable to ND's. A ND hold more when you are going for jobs at big firms for more money. A UT degree will still get you places but a ND degree will get you there faster. Just as a Harvard degree is better then a ND degree. I love UT but know that I got a decent education at a decent price.

And just magically, the ones that ND uses are so much more educational that the ones at UT.

If you are going to argue educational issues, then at least use appropriate grammar. Using incorrect grammar does not strengthen your argument concerning books.

And, just magically, the ones that ND uses are so much more educational than the ones UT uses.

Listen. Nobody here is saying that someone can't graduate from UT and be better educated and smarter than someone that graduated from Notre Dame. However, a degree from Notre Dame carries more prestige nationally than a degree from UT. It's a fact. There's no need to be defensive about it.

The ND degree will get you somewhere faster just because of the stereotype. The person educated from ND is not any smarter than I am for having gone there.

I have my doubts that 'allvol' has graduated from any institute of higher education.

Anytime you wanna compare degrees, go ahead. Also, I was actively recruited to go to ND for their MBA program. So that would be impressive to you I assume.

They may not be smarter, but they are more than likely more well educated. The average ND student probably had a high school GPA of at least 1 point higher than the average UT student, an ACT score at least 5 points higher, and an SAT score that was probably 200 to 300 points higher. Do you believe that all those people, who are inherently more intelligent, would choose to throw their money away for a degree that means nothing more than a degree from UT?

I am a graduate from the UT College of Business. I know that my resume has to be more padded in more areas than the resume of an applicant who has a degree from a Tier 1 school.

Not really all that impressed, since you failed to go.

Same with Harvard then? Not any harder? Just a stereotype? You need to realize the level of teaching at ND is higher. Just as Vanderbilt. Just like the old joke goes:

What is the difference between a car full of UT students and a car full of Vanderbilt students that breaks down on the highway?

The Vanderbilt students mix martinis and call AAA for a tow truck.
The UT students change the tires and document the whole thing so they can get one credit for it when they get back to school.

Funny but true in some cases.

I'm just glad I've reached a point/knowledge level in my career where I don't worry about it. I'll put my UT degree and experience against a ND degree and experience any day. School attended means nothing past about 5 years if you can't back it up.

I hope Donald comes to UT.
