Remember 85? Daryl Dickey after Tony Robinson injury?"I remember there was a newspaper cartoon hung in the quarterbacks room," said Jeff Francis, a redshirt freshman quarterback. "It was an airplane with a flat tire and said, 'we're going the rest of the way on the ground.'1985 Vols were sweet as SugarMoore is nowhere near as capable as Nico, hence why he's the backup.
ZERO chance with Moore to beat GA.
* I guess that one pass INT was JH holding the Nintendo controls...
I think it is often underestimated how much different a gameplan can be when designed for one QB vs another. With Nico, they have to focus on getting the most of his athletic ability but reduce the mental load. He's not ready for it yet. With Moore, they'll do the opposite. You'll want to showcase his experience and knowledge of the O. Physical mistakes are a concern with him though. One thing Josh Heupel has shown himself really adept at, over and over again these past four years, is patterning the game plan and the play selections around what his players are capable of achieveing.
And Josh knows Gaston Moore almost better than his own children.
So between a kick-ass defense, a superb running game, and a QB that Josh can almost play like he's holding nintendo controls, I think we're gonna be fine if Nico has to sit this one out.
Go Vols!
Seeing as how I was 1, noRemember 85? Doesn't have to be. He has to be good enough that Heupel can build a gameplan around his strengths. Also, Nico starting is an investment. He is "nowhere near" as capable as he needs to be to create big separation between himself and a much less talented guy like Moore. When you get the experience, intelligence, talent, composure, skill, etc all matured and wrapped up in one guy... it looks like Hooker in 2022.Moore is nowhere near as capable as Nico, hence why he's the backup.
UT's offensive chances with either guy vs UGA ride on being enough of a threat in the passing game to let the run game and D win it for you. Nothing Nico has done this year suggests UT can put the game on his shoulders in Athens.ZERO chance with Moore to beat GA.
If you are referring to the one I'm thinking of I believe it was 3rd and long from near mid-field. An experienced guy will have that in the back of his mind and sometimes take a high risk shot downfield. Usually you get about the same field flip as a punt. Not all good QB decisions result in a 20 yd laser. Some just put the team in a better position than they otherwise would have been like throwing deep on 3rd and long or whipping one into the stands rather than taking a sack. Several times Nico has hurt the team by taking a sack rather than throwing it away.* I guess that one pass INT was JH holding the Nintendo controls...
Only ignorant fans would overreact. Why the hell would Huep say Nico isn’t playing? He wants Georgia to prepare like he is, as much as our fan base likes to think we’re owed something by Huep we’re not. The guy is going to do what’s best for his chances to win on Saturday.
This is true. The Thamel report and Heupel's statements that he practiced were misleading. He was at practice, but the Sparks guy from FB (who has been pretty good at intel for a while on recruiting and a few other things too) said his sources indicated Nico was working off to the side, so he did not scrimmage and would indicate he is in the protocol process but not cleared to play.Fact: he hasn’t practiced
Fact: under concussion protocol you can’t practice until Wednesday at the earliest
Anything else is speculation
Precisely. A lot of BVS doomers feel better about themselves when they predict a loss instead of hope for a win.Pitiful take..........
I think Heupel's play calling in the 3rd quarter of the Miss. St. game reflected what you're saying.I think it is often underestimated how much different a gameplan can be when designed for one QB vs another. He's got 1 interception. How is he reckless? Because of the Alabama game? If he couldn't play, CJH wouldn't have him on the team. They didn't even sniff a QB in the portal with a RS Freshman, Freshman, and RA Senior. Apparently the staff knows more than you, and are comfortable with what he's able to do.If Gaston plays we don't win. He isn't accurate enough and too reckless with trying to sling it down field. Offense would have to put long methodical drives together. Oline has to give Sampson some room and Gaston will have to consistently hit underneath passes. Maybe get lucky again with couple PI's downfield. Less possessions than normal, especially with UGA style of play as well. Would have to grind it out which is possible BUT Gaston would have to absolutely protect the ball. If we do lose it would probably be best case scenario with Gaston as starter, especially if we keep it respectable. Would give committee something to fall back on knowing our starter would be coming back.
Don't disagree with thus unless chaos happens and it could...Wait and see. You won’t have more than three 2 loss SEC teams unless Texas loses.
